Just heard that my brother-in-law (49) and mother-in-law (79) are now at each other's throats because he suggested that they should stay at home (nice area and big garden) and he should get their shopping for them. To be honest, I thought she was bonkers already but apparently she took to social media and started ranting about "personal freedom", "ageism" and "respect from the young people" etc. I fear it might literally be "the last nail in her coffin"... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Unfortunately we have similar stories in Aussie, the latest being a couple of high fliers who returned home from a skiing holiday in the U.S., continued their "high life" upon their return to Aussie, & so far have infected 40 people, but the greater problem is how many those 40 have infected, and so it goes.
People compare this with the plague, black death etc, I feel this is much worse, we have the ability to travel great distances, even in our own locality we are mobile, but in the days of the plague, most were confined to their own area.
And as mentioned in this thread, there are plenty of stupid, stubborn, " don't tell me what to do" sorts of people about who just don't give a stuff,...which is a major major problem for all of us....unless these people are reigned in by whatever means, & people "SELF ISOLATE", this virus will be very very difficult to beat.
I am staying at home, haven't seen anyone for a week or so, but I will have to start going for a walk for the sake of my fitness, but I shall be very sure not to "meet" anyone. And, I should mention that I have a lovely wife to care for me, & look after me.
What I find very sad is that looking outside, it's a beautiful day, I should be out & about cruising around in our lovely V8,.....but I can't do it.
Sorry for such a sad post, but my advise to everyone is, ISOLATE, STAY AWAY FROM EVERYONE ELSE, STAY AT HOME, this is the best way to make sure the virus cannot get to you.
China appears to have got on top of the disease with apparently very strict draconian measures, I just wonder whether Western Society has the same necessary discipline which is VITAL if we are to "win"?

In the other age bracket my 25 yr old step daughter is adamant that she is driving from North Wales to Newcastle this weekend to see her boyfriend!
Despite Me & everyone else inc Boris telling her not to travel & stay at home!
That is causing some rows I can tell you!

They live among us!

Exactly what I am seeing in my family some of the young and some of the older are struggling to comprehend what is happening and are not taking it seriously, fortunately my parents are and have locked themselves away with a few cars to rebuild DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Why do the lycra clad

, who sweat, blow, shout, gob etc all the time, think 2 metres doesn’t apply to them?

MOVE OUT WHEN PASSING PEDESTRIANS.

I think I need to dig out my long handled spade, when I swing this, It will have a reach of 2 metres to remind them.

It is mad how people don't get it. I will say though, that in my bit of the UK at least, there are far far fewer people out and about.

I am still working most days due to the nature of my work, but the company I'm working for are very concerned about security of operation, so I am driving to the office (alone) doing my days work (alone) and then driving home (to my lovely partner). As social risks go, I'm probably most at risk doing the shopping!

We're also lucky enough to be surrounded by enough greenery that going out for a walk is also a nice lonely experience!

A major domestic crisis (no milk for tea) has just caused me to go out foraging in the badlands for the first time since Monday evening.

I was expecting it to be all "Hunger Games" or "The Purge" but was pleasantly surprised to find the local ASDA with a well-organised queuing system and system to limit numbers in the shop, about 30 people in a queue all 2m or more apart. After a short time in the queue talking to the coach driver about 3m in front, I made it into the store to find that it had everything I needed including milk a-plenty, branded bogroll, perishables (fruit, veg, dairy), frozen stuff. In fact there didn't seem to be any less stuff than usual, and the limit on customers made the whole experience more pleasant than usual.

I didn't see a single fight, mugging, or murder, and no-body even complained when a young lady at the front of the queue allowed an exceptionally old person go in front of her. It was a bit of an anticlimax really!

My son who since a baby has had several serious medical issues. He is one of the many who has volunteered to try to help others.
He can’t go out shopping for folks but he said he can call up a vulnerable elderly person to check if they are ok. He wants to do his bit and I am very proud of him, he’s a very selfless lad.

Here in Holland it's pretty similar: most people understand the situation and act accordingly, but there's always the occassional moron that either refuses to understand, or is too stupid to understand. And then there are those that cough at civil servants shouting "corona corona", 2 of which got sentenced to 8 weeks imprisonment this week... Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

We ordered a load of PPE, gloves, wipes and hand sanitiser etc from our company supplier online 2 weeks ago, they arrived today and as we closed the site today I took them to the local hospital for them to use instead , the sister who answered the ringing bell said wait there and returned with 2 nurses who then began to clap saying thankyou so much, none of us had dry eyes a very moving moment, when I got back to site I ordered more and will do the same when it arrives. 2015 HT XS 90
