It is a fantastic car, same engine in a lighter 90 will be pretty good too. I’ve had issues with turning the radio on from the press switch at the left hand end of the console on occasions, press it and nothing happens then after 3-4 minutes suddenly it comes alive! After seemless phone pairing after after starting up, when I collected the car from detailing on Thursday it wouldn’t pair to my iPhone 1st it wouldn’t find the iPhone then the iPhone couldn’t find Land Rover so I deleted Land Rover in Bluetooth and iPhone on the screen and re-paired them, synch’d 1st try and yesterday and today the phone was paired as soon as I pressed the start button.
Fuelled up yesterday at Stirling Sainsbury’s forecourt and had a father and son from a Lotus Elise in front of me want to look inside - their other car is a D3 with 300,000 miles on it and always had Main Dealer servicing, never a problem it just runs and runs. Then a guy in a 18 year old Land Cruiser on the other side of the pumps from me asked to look inside- most impressed loved it, going to Pentland this weekend to have a test drive and mine was the first he’d seen. Owned his Land Cruiser since new but it was getting too expensive to repair and some parts take for ever to arrive from Japan, also fuel consumption was terrible.
I would really urge the guys who think the car is a dud as a Classic replacement to go for a test drive even if you hate the car and will never buy one, seriously I think you’ll be amazed by it, especially a D240. At least you will have tried one.
Useless fact - the new Honda E city car BEV is as heavy as a new Defender 110 but half the size! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I’m considering changing to the 110, my salesman showed me Tasman Blue base model on steel wheels that was in their compound. I liked the colour, perhaps an acquired taste but I thought looked. Apparently they’ve got Tasman Blue/white/steel wheel car arriving in the the next month or two. I’ll still wait to try a 90 but I’m more leaning towards a 110 just for the extra practicality.

It’s tight in the drive though

The dealer disconnected the battery and so far all seems well. Apparently the car I had is out all week on Demos.

Isn’t it disappointing. All of us, especially those of us actually buying these Defenders want the brand to do so well. We love their brand, we love their products, were even prepared to pay our hard earned money on them again and again, time after time in the hope that finally Land Rover have got to grips with their quality issues and yet here we are with history repeating itself yet again.
The Defender we tested also has little rattles in the two front doors and when we mentioned it the salesmen did say with a smile it appears to be a Defender character trait! To be fair unless we were sat in silence it was undetectable and certainly not bad enough to put us off. But still it was there. And if it is on my one when it arrives and they think I’m going to let it drop without it being rectified then they are going to be sorely disappointed!!
What is it with this brand? Why can’t they sort this out? If it’s a Defender trait it should have been sorted before the launch ffs!!!! Not just shrugged their shoulders and said let’s call it a Defender character trait! Sold the Puma Defender and bought a brand new Pangea Green 2020 Defender D240 S with a few factory extras!

The salesman should not be saying that sort of thing, this is a clean sheet, ground up new vehicle and costs a lot more than the utility vehicle it replaces. It should be perfect when pre-sales testing is completed, JLR are reverting to BMC/ARG by letting the customers finish off the testing once they’ve bought one. I never had the issues on new L332 RR’s, RRS’s or Evoques as I’m getting on this car. In total my 1st Evoque which was a very early production car had a problem with wind noise on the front doors - but that was the sum total of faults since taking delivery of those new models since 2003.
Yesterday evening I was coming down the motorway at the speed limit and heard a noise like I was driving through clouds of bugs when they hit the screen/ front of the car except there were no bugs hitting the screen! I assume that this must be the A pillar trim vibration that has become a recall and I thought my car wasn’t suffering from........... at least my replacement trims are on order (delivery date unknown as they are on back order!) Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

As these faults are well known you would assume they would be rectified as part of the PDI for vehicles already in the system. For vehicles still at the factory you would assume the faults would be rectified before shipment.
Surely these faults must have been extant during all of that testing they did. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Absolutely
This is all so frustrating! You just want to meet the CEO and just ask “what the hell are you doing allowing these issues to keep happening!!“ And why?
I sometimes wonder if maybe all new cars have a fault here and there now they are so complex. I know certainly the brand new Golf Gti I bought in 2017 had a couple of electronic glitches with the radio and with phone connection issues. But when you look at the Manufacturers Surveys that get carried out each year, Jaguar and Land Rover rarely fair well in Reliability or in Dealership Satisfaction. Each year I think well they will be so horrified by this that they will be having huge meetings and working out how to reverse these results for the following year. But no!!
Anyway time will tell with this new one. To be fair our Freelander 2 is wonderful and seems to be Very reliable (touch wood).
That’s what we changed the Golf for after a year! A used Freelander Sold the Puma Defender and bought a brand new Pangea Green 2020 Defender D240 S with a few factory extras!

The number of variants to suit different markets is staggering - Ireland gets a P400 First Edition, US is getting some variations on the U.K. market too, Australia has lower specced versions of the P400 which at present isn’t even on sale here and then is only available as the Defender X. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

no idea why Land Rover did not release the P400 in lower specs in the UK, seems baffling.

The P400's in Ireland are not cheap though, the P400 SE from the website Spud put up is the
equivalent of $164K Australian, you can get a P400 SE in Australia on road (with no extras)
for $115K, so nearly $50K Aussie difference Shocked or 25K of her majesties squids thereabouts. yet another pommie bar steward down under

When you say "recall" do you mean that it's a full motor industry /Govt recall or is it more of a Technical Service Bulletin/Servive Message?

Zilch, it would be interesting to see the pre-tax prices. Eire has huge taxes on new carslike many EU countries, especially on big engines and diesels Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I cannot see how Privi Pro would be a “danger to life/ safety “ item needing a recall - suspect both these are TSB.

Philm - is th eteering one for the over intrusive Lane Assist system because mine is switched off as much as I can go down through the layers but it still cuts in which is a pain on the narrow roads around here where our generous council has white lined the road edges along the verge Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

The dealer told me there were recalls for the Privi, known problems. The steering is for the pump taking its time starting when you start the car.

My various RRS’s, Evoques and FFRR’s were way too frequent visitors to the service bay for problems like misaligned tailgates, misaligned bonnets, doors not hung properly, paintwork defects, TFT dashboards that would randomly go blank, spurious warnings of the remote oil level sensor having failed requiring me to stop the engine “as soon as it is safe”. I just hope that they fix these annoying things that should stop a vehicle leaving the factory on quality control grounds for New Defender

Here's a thought ~ Maybe those of you buying the vehicle are actually contributing to the problem in the sense that your money is helping maintain the status quo or even allow those responsible inside the company to feel things aren't as bad as some people say. Sometimes you have to drain the water to see the rocks. If nobody bought a vehicle because of poor quality can you imagine the priority the issue would be given?

There's undoubtedly people within the company trying to put issues right, but being denied the resources/opportunity to do so because the status quo and vested interests are hard to move. The termoil of zero or near zero sales could be the catalyst for the real change needed at the pace required.

There's also something quite quixotic about giving someone £50k for a vehicle you know has rattley doors, whistling A pillars, blanking screens, spurious alarms and expecting the one they give you to be perfect.
