England 2002 Defender 90 Td5 HT Epsom Green
The 90 with four people inside and no space for luggage, rucksacks, dog or even the weekly shopping combined with the ridiculous pricing will be its undoing even though I think it looks the nicest.

It’s a lot of money for not a lot of vehicle unless there is only the two of you and you keep the back seats folded up.

I was told in October when I saw the 110 that the configurator for the 90 would be ready in January, in hindsight I should have asked which year.

Kind of bored now, looking forward to seeing what Ford do with the new Broncho in the next few months. At least that is running on correct sized wheels and tyres....

Did JLR not say that they wanted to take on Jeep with the new Defender, those projected sales targets are woefully low compared to the Jeep Wrangler JL sales in it first few months.

To be fair the 90 has never been the practical choice for carrying passengers and luggage. It’ll suit me fine, most of the time I’m in the car myself.

I was told at Halewood to expect the 90 to appear online in January, now I’m being told March with deliveries around October.

The Defender sales was from an Autocar article.

Can you put a link up to the source for this, otherwise there really is no context for what it shows ~ is this just a regional market, UK, Australia...?

The reason there is no link is that it’s a screen shot of my digital issue of Autocar, plus the article was about the new Range Rover and this was just a snippet at the bottom of the page with no additional info given.

Agree - if anything the new 90 might be very slightly more practical than the old, in that it seats 5 - maybe even 6 if you have the middle front seat? Ok no luggage space, but the extra seating could be really useful for the occasional school run/birthday party.

And then I'm assuming you can fold the rear seat 60/40? If so, you could still seat 4 and have about the same (small) amount of luggage/dog space as the old 90.

As a family of 3 +dog, the middle seat option is very interesting (depending on shoulder room of course) as it could give us the option to properly load up the rear for holidays. We already have trailers & roof box.

But the vast majority of the time it is just the 3 of us, so no need to carry around the extra metal of a 110 for the occasional time it would be used. Plus 90 looks better!

One thing I’ve noticed with the 90 is the rear seats don’t fold flat as there seems to be a strengthening beam along the base of the back seats.

Nice Thumbs Up

But the opening and closing of doors whilst cross axled has been shown on every new LR vehicle for more than the last 10 years...

"It has no more squeaks or rattles now than it did when it was new. They're built that way now" ~ I know what he meant, but I did snigger a little when I heard him say that.

TReK is essentially a US dealer training exercise and so the explanations were clearly aimed at that specific audience who have the task of selling them. Some of that audience may have little experience of off-road vehicles, or only of US trucks that are built in the traditional way, which is why it may seem simplistic. Darren

Appreciate what you say, but it terms of the New Defender moving things on, this was a demo you could have done with a LR product 20 years ago?

Where are the new party tricks...what makes it the "most capable" vehicle LR have ever produced?

It was always one of the things LRE’s used to demo with the Freelander 1 and then with Discovery 3, then they would show you how a Defender of the time couldn’t do it..........unless it had TC fitted. So that must have been back in 1998 or earlier so even in the US market it is nothing new although being able to open and close the doors while cross-axled might be.... Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Take a look at Richard Agnew (@theragers): https://twitter.com/theragers

He just got a Defender and is already taking it on a trip, posting photos of fill-up, packing space, etc.

He does work for LR though, so don't expect him to say anything overtly bad. --

LOL ~ He's either very media savy (and given his job...) and posted pictures outside someone else's house or breaking all the rules you'd teach a 12 year old when allowing them online...
