Have painted both my axles with por15 it's probably not necessary but has anyone used a underseal over the top of por15 paint?

If this is the original POR-15 paint which is rock hard there is absolutely no point in painting over it unless it's for aesthetic reasons or you want to protect it from UV light (depending on which one you have used) E.g. You wish to have a different finish other than gloss black! You can put Dinitrol 4941 over it BUT it's pointless from a protection point of view.
POR-15 original to warn and remind folks is a rock hard coating. Fine on guaranteed rust free metal but don,t use it on old rusty metal that has been shall we say, wire brushed, marine cleaned etc, and acid converted because that won,t have cured the rust problem and you are just trapping rust in. You have to have new metal or metal that has had the rust blasted back to fresh good metal.
Excellent stuff for the right application but it doesn,t stop rust, it just stops it showing through, similar to some Raptor and Buzzweld products.

Thank you for detailed reply the axles have been fully stripped down before wire brushing with angle grinder/needle gunned them before using the por 15 marine cleaner followed by acid converter then painting gave them 4 coats with paint brush used around 5-600ml over the two axles in all honesty on corner edge on some angled edges of bracketry hasn't has fully covered being a thinner paint if that makes sense other than that I'm very happy with the finish and going to use some cavity wax within bracketly to make sure it's all protected

All the brackets are new replacement parts from yrm, if i was painting on straight edge cut metals again would probably give edges slight buff with grinder flap disc to help with paint coverage

Sounds a good job, and yes it makes sense. If any possible thinner areas and fiddly bits you can,t get to with a brush properly are a concern you could coat with a rattle can of Dinitrol 4941 but I would put on a coat of cavity wax first to help adhesion. You could also spray on Dinitrol Corroheat clear coat which is easier Thumbs Up

Good to see you Rob Thumbs Up

Rob knows it's the sub frames on modern cars which have absolutely no protection, that will kill a new car in only a few years. Some subframes like a Panda model cannot be bought so perfectly good cars are being scrapped. If only everyone sprayed their cars from new they would last years.

Robs car is now protected with clear coat Dinitrol Corroheat. It's now been done from new and will last years. That's the way to do it Wink

This was treated eight years ago with Dinitrol RC900 rust convertor, 1000 and 4941 top coat.

Rust rubbed back and treated back then with RC900! You do have to get the rust pretty much back to good metal however!

The original 48 year old underseal was stripped off carefully revealing a grey underside as shown in the picture. To keep it original I then treated it with Dinitrol clear coat Corroheat. Once again it I should still good after 8 years.

8 years on with 'opaque' Dinitrol Corroheat. Excellent on brand new, mint older classics or Japanese imports!!

Still waiting for wings to be painted. That purple colour is Dinitrol RC900 acid convertor.... no risk of rust whilst waiting for paint. Thumbs Up

After rebuilding a Series IIA I said I would never do it again BUT it's great fun rebuilding a car as best and original I can. These are all original clips, fasteners etc. I have not zinc coated anything. I even refurbished the original soundproofing (with guess what, Dinitrol as it is a high quality bitchumen glue basically, similar to what the sound proofing was made of).

Lovely to see the Dinitrol working well.

I do alot of Dinitrol treatments with my work. It's the best of gear imo!

Like everything, it's all in the prep and using the correct products in order. ▀▄▀▄▀▄ "𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕, 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒕!" ▄▀▄▀▄▀ 🤠

This was driven down from Halifax. 5.5 hrs away, so an early 3.30am start for Carl. Recently bought at auction and it's really nice. Good body just needs sorting underneath with Dinitrol as the old Waxoyl is now trapping in moisture.

Now booking for the New Year. Wink
