Yes not really effective in non-conductive air. I suppose because you fitted them you care and maybe just wash your car more or in general look after it better. So it works very well as a placebo rust protection!

In Europe where there is salt used a weekly wash-down in winter does wonders. Its the drive and forget mentality that makes cars rot.

Actually modern cars expire not because of rust but because of electronics, batteries and now more and more software and end of over-the-air support after <10 years. We gone full circle with cars lasting as long as they did in the '70s!
