When putting the transfer box back onto the gearbox, it helps if you can get a set of hardened steel guide pins. These keep the t/box square and avoids damaging the oil seal.

2005 Td5; water cooling fan starts running immediately engine is turned on from cold. Is this normal?
I thought it only starts running when the water heats up. |

I’d be going single piece and be done with all the 2 piece issues, personally.
I did toy with the idea of a pair of those, but I've now already spent £300 + on the shafts and flanges so am stuck ... |

Have you got the right drive flanges as the early ones where thicker and the later Tdi onwards are thinner

Is anyone aware of any timing chain problems with the Td5? Does the chain need to be replaced after so many miles as, for example, the serpentine belt does? |

Bought my Defender with 180,000 on it all ran fine until recently @ 235,000 miles.
