I agree it will be a Defender in all but name....


Sad but true its a sign or the time, safety / emissions. It's just a shame as Mercedes kept the look with the G class and fitted all the luxury if you want it from the range. JLR could have done that?


It will also be changed every 3 / 4 years with new updates and 'facelifts' to keep in line with the rest of the range.


It's no Farm, truck / maintenance / support / landscape gardener truck any more. The price alone will see to that. It's quite literally going to be an Urban Truck.


No doubt it will grow on us and I do look forward to seeing it.

I think this is a marketing mule that's been carefully crafted for us to talk about. Look at the bonnet tie down clasps - that's got to be a joke? And the hashtag is just blatant.

The rear looks unique to all other models, but the bonnet is clamshell like Range Rovers, so the front end may be more "borrowed" from the current parts bin. There are lots of Defender "cues" missing that they're talked about including before.

No idea what that mule is.

But one thing is demonstrably true.

JLR have been brilliant at keeping us talking and wondering and interested.

You have to give them that, if nothing else.


Like others, I worry that the price, not the looks, will be the killer.

A D4 style in slightly smaller form with slightly wider flared arches and lift with a little more Defender classic style front would be good I reckon.
I definitely should not be all rounded of, or any smaller than the current Defender.

The same rounded off profile rubbish spoiled the look for the D5 imo.

D4 was lovely.

Prices are im pretty sure going to be out of most members budget here, and if priced high again will not be used for purpose for that very reason.

Can still see many going the Wrangler route... Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

All that tech on the latest Disco is proving troublesome if the threads on some other forums is to be believed, even issues such as oil dilution on the engines means I will not be at the front of the queue for one of these.

No, but it was easy on a Defender!


And then they mostly went onto to D-max pickups but Isuzu has done goofed with the 1.9 diesel was according to the grapevine (previous owners) about talking to the local dealer the engine isn't popular. and two customers of mine have swapped there's come trade in time for a D4 and a Navara respectively

Sad really as for the NQR Isuzu small lorry then It still gets the 3.0 diesel abiet with Adblue to keep it Euro 6 Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

Yes another Tarts handbag with meaty tow hooks to get on the tow truck easier . Let's face it JLRs reliability is worsening with more tech and this company seems to struggle with its electronic architecture . At almost every reliability study they are consistently at the bottom of every list , yet they say the new Defender is going to be full of tech !
I believe the true successor to our much loved series and Defenders is going to come out of Germany , via Mr Radcliffe and ineos , they seem to be talking a true simplistic tourer, expedition vehicle with built in engineered reliability and genuine low cost of ownership . My Disco 4 has all the capability but don't take it too far from a capable Diagnostics tech centre , where they tell me my egrs have failed , my plastic inlet manifolds are cracked , my air compressor has failed , oh and by the way all your front end suspension bushes are worn out again !! When you regularly have these occur , the cost is truly horrific , oh forgot the bloody timing belts $$$$$ .
My Defender 300 Tdi is in another league , won't mention my Transit powered model , it is sold , Egrs etc .My Discovery 1 300 tdi is amazing , but slowly rotting its floors out due to consistent water entering foot wells ! Friends drive there Toyotas and see me as some kind of weird eccentric because I love my Land Rovers , I don't mention my Disco 4 running costs to them !
From a purely stylistic approach I believe the new Defender is looking promising , and yes I believe this is the new Defender but the largest and fastest growing market for vehicles in this part of the world is double cab pick ups and the wheel base would have to be 130 plus for one of these !
The new Defender will be a success compared to the last model as far as sales figures go, and it will be profitable
