Well, I've gone for a Ashcroft 1.3 transfer box.... I needed to make a decision and get the car back on the road.

I think if i was towing a 1.3 would have interested me also, but for my use (cruising mainly / longer trips) the 1.2 with mild tune / remap was recommended.

I have spent quite a bit of time on the Ashcroft ratio calculator, certainly is a useful tool.

Mines a TD5 110 with a VNT turbo, so a bit more power...

I've driven 150k miles with the STD1.4 Transfer box and probably around half of those miles with a GKN ...

Did you go for the 1.2 transfer box?

How are you getting on with it?

I've been advised 1.3 is the sweet spot and I don't know what to do

Defender brakes are actually pretty good.... Sounds like you need to do a complete inspection and overhaul of the brake system.

I'd give that a wash with some hot soapy water..... Let it dry you'd then see if its the cap or gasket leaking 😉
