Bulkhead Strip down & Removal
Good morning all!

Can anyone direct me to a thread showing the steps to strip and remove a 300Tdi bulkhead and windscreen, including dashboard removal? I assume this has been covered but having trouble finding the right thread.

If there is also a thread showing how to refit bulkhead and windscreen and reassemble that will no doubt be very useful!

Thanks in advance.

Ignore this post. Just told you how to remove the dash on a puma, which was pretty pointless!

To be honest, though the job's been done a lot, it's really very 'bitty' - by which I mean lots of little fixings and components, though none of it is very technical.

What I'd suggest is to take lots of pictures as you go, so you have references for the rebuild, and can hopefully avoid the hassle of fitting something before realising you should have fitted something else first. For example, don't fit the dash backing panel before fitting the windscreen wiper tubes (not a great example, but hopefully you'll get what I mean).

Also, have a bunch of egg boxes and plastic bags and labels to hand to make sure that you can keep things organised.

This is the place to ask specific questions though. I've had my dash out a couple of times, bulkhead once, but I've done two other bulkheads too. Not as especially technical job, but a bit involved. Donald

I have placed some pictures in my restoration thread, pg12, however not an account how to strip or assemble.

https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72365-165.html

But I try to give a short account to remove the dash here (hopefully without too many mistakes):
1. First to remove is the binnacle, and the heater controls
2. Remove passenger side grab handle and wiper motor cover
3. Remove top dash. There are screws on the underside too.
4. Remove plastic rivets and Gently pull out the grey plastic trim. Very fiddly. Mine is pre 2002 design. You have to press it almost to the point of breaking it. Just cross your finger that it does not.
5. Remove the windscreen demister and the metal panel that was behind the greyish plastic trim.
6. Remove the lower dash. There are 2 M5 screws at the top side, one would be behind the harness. There are of course the self tapping screws around the bottom edge.

To install is the reverse procedure. Putting the greyish plastic trim back in was very difficult. I spent the best of 2hrs trying to get it in as delicately as possible, as I was working with 33 year old plastic. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

On the link I posted is a list of bits I ordered for when mine was done. Some I knew would need replacing, others were just in case. 1999 Defender TD5 110
