South Africa 2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Alpine White
Very interesting tech comparison from https://jalopnik.com/what-i-found-when-i-c...1838080009

Quote:
I just crawled under the 2020 Land Rover Defender—the unibody, independent suspension-equipped successor to a legendary body-on-frame, solid-axle off-road brute. What I saw didn’t appear to be an SUV built on a special off-road platform, but rather a machine quite similar to other vehicles in the Land Rover lineup...

...I was surprised to see that, instead of giant sheets of heavy steel or even aluminum skid plates, the belly pan appeared to be made of a fibrous material, not unlike the aero covers that you might find under sedans, crossovers, and pretty much any type of modern vehicle...

...While we’re back there, we may as well have a look at the suspension, which, on the Land Rover Defender, is an integral link setup with air springs—the same suspension type found on the current Land Rover Discovery. And, in fact, if you compare the two, as I did on the Frankfurt Auto Show floor, you’ll notice quite a few similarities. ...

^^^ Not bad. The video version is far better than the New McGovern Design, but still not quite right. Maybe bacuse it reminds me too much of the RR Cullinan. What his design (and that of the Cullinan) does go to prove, is that slab fronted vehicles can still meet all necessary pedestrian safety tests as set by the EU and US. So, the idea that they couldn’t have kept the most iconic part of the Defender, it’s nose/face, is balls.... Whistle

Didn’t 5th Gear or someone do an experiment that showed flat faced cars were actually better for pedestrians? They end up pushing them (albeit violently) rather than tipping them straight into the windscreen.

Well, I’ve spent today looking over them.

I absolutely love the new Defender. I know it divides opinion but for me, it would look great on my driveway next to my Wolf and D3 or RRS.

Interesting. Especially as you seem to be one of the few on here who has actually seen it.

If judging purely on looks, in what order would you place your 3 and the new one?

My RRS Supercharged brings the noise and fun but I’m not off roading that one. The D3 is an amazing workhorse and the Wolf has yet to earn its stripes but will be a basics vehicle to play with and hopefully keep.

If I got a new Defender it would have to replace the RRS as my daily driver but then would take on the D3 work. So maybe I’d sell that too and scale down the collection!

Some more photos for you.

Looks nothing like a D3/4 to my eyes.

The interior shots looked like cloth. Was that in the big dual coloured 110? It looked too high spec to be velour trim inside. Looks harder wearing material, more exmoor trim than LR Whistle 1951 80" S1 2.0

Fabric, leather and fabric/leather mix seat coverings are available - they are all listed on the configurator as options. The metallic brown/ black 110 looks like the Defender X model so all singing and dancing top of the range version with a full leather interior, but iyou can have the same colour on a base model with fabric seats Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

The 90 Commercial (Wilks) looks promising. I wonder what the pricing and spec will be when that becomes available - and how easy it will be to fit rear windows like I have on my TD5 County Hardtop. 2005 Defender 90 TD5

Really? That's £42,000 to those of us who aren't vat registered. You could have THREE fully loaded Transit Connects for that. Now left.

This tour of the First Edition on the Frankfurt stand is very informative. He picks up on a lot of details by sticking his camera into all the nooks and crannies. I picked up from it that the ladder and external box accessories blank off a large portion of the Alpine lights. Also it has no proper handbrake but an automatic type one.

Lots of clever options to specify. I particularly like the Lilliputians on the roof. Presumably to clean off debris or tree sap and give warnings of low bridges etc.

Genius.
