according to some around here, unless you're doing this, you're not a *real* Defender driver:

my original comment was TIC, I most definitely DO NOT look like the typical South African Defender driver Rolling with laughter

but also, not a SINGLE person from Africa or Australia, the last truly 'frontier' places where the new Defender will have to prove itself. Confused

I managed (as the vehicle commander, not the driver) to tip a 110 wolf into one of the biggest tank tracks I have ever seen, filled with water after biblical rain on Salisbury Plain. It was just our vehicle, dark o’clock at night, mid winter, raining and there were only three of us, ergo with one driving only two doing the graft. That photo gives me some serious flashbacks. Lots of waist-deep wading, digging, pushing, shoving etc. After many wasted hours, fortunately one of those armoured recovery thingies bimbled along and dragged us out. They were on a different exercise, so HQ non-the-wiser, but no doubt they had a good laugh back at camp at the idiot, very wet Subaltern with his rolled Wolf Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

No one was stereotyping or looking for a typical owner; but rather the opposite in looking at a pool of people and not seeing anything to identify with. That's a completely different thing and a very normal part of "tribal identity".

I certainly didn't recognise any of them as the type of person I see when doing the rounds of LR shows...

But surely you should be looking at the people being offered free coffee in a JLR dealership to see the people who are actually buying from JLR.

Rather a moot point as JLR have not had a "Defender" model in any dealership for several years. That in itself is a rather damning indictment of the current management.

My wife learned how to drive in a 200 tdi 110 and passed her test first time. She has NEVER driven anything other than a 110. Now she drives a Puma. We have NEVER owned a car and our first car was a 90 turbo bought in 1990. We switched to a 110 tdi 200 in 1996 owing to family needs. Our 110 is our every day car. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I'm beginning to wonder if this will be Defenders' P38 moment - widely unliked and so LR keep producing the old model (in this guise via the Works V8 and the Heritage division) to be replaced by a much more radical and highly regarded version in a few years time.

I posted along these lines previously; this is now on one of the mainstream JLR platforms and so will need to follow the same lifecycle. We'll see a facelift around 2024.5 MY, then a replacement on a full BEV platform will start to surface around 2028 ahead of the planned banning of new model ICE in key EU markets circa 2030.

So if you don't like this model, you'll not have too long to wait for a new vehicle

Rather than mainstream, it's more redundant/obsolete.

According to JLR's own info graphic all models will be on a full BEV capable platform by 2025.

This must surely put JLR's halo product right at the back of the queue and won't be good for residuals, especially for those waiting for a 130 not due until 2021.

That is strange some were emailed this, however on closer inspection it does seem to be different to both bond and the paint booth.
The second opening is much bigger (almost same size as top badge opening if you took out middle) giving a tougher look. The bottom of the second opening is also rounder comparing with bond. There seems to be a plate over the lower area, with cam over it.
Bonnet opening for the first time seems to go straight back rather than around the checker plate seen at tusk.??
LR did say re paint booth, we try many options etc.
Maybe they expected bond to leak and tweaked it a little to troll us.

Tend to agree all round, I think we will all be surprised in final reveal.

Some of the leaked photos could be previous iterations than the final, food for thought?

I agree on all points Blackie. You have an eagle eye. I see the differences now, even on my iPhone. Great catch!

Land Rover have said publicly that they have moved the design of the Defender on .

Well it all looks a little old hat for something that has been moved on ,

Come on , it's hardly cutting edge stuff is it ?

Even if you love it , still think it is marmite/vegemite stuff

Too me this picture says it all really ,

Defender2 the poser star of the show , much like Range Rovers ,

In the background is a jap double cab pick up ,

Doing the grafting , pack horse commercial work ,

Much like Defenders of old !

As a die hard Land Rover man , this is what I wanted from a new Defender !

Leave the posing to Range Rovers !

Yes, with British plates and a .co.uk address written on the tailgate. Odd in Russia isn't it? 2007 90 Puma - Love it - Best car I have ever owned.
