If the vehicle follows current automotive trends, it will be reporting all manner of driving parameters, locations, speeds, g-forces, number of occupants, and a whole host of other intrusive information at any time the manufacturer wishes. This data collection is at present completely unregulated and as far as I know there are no restrictions or agreements on how the manufacturer can use it.
The only upside I can see for having every detail of every journey potentially recorded is that finding your vehicle after it has been stolen should be relatively easy, possibly also shutting it down remotely. |

All new vehicles in the EU either now or in the very near future have to have this technology as a safety feature. It’s been in all new Land Rovers for a few years now |

Even my fiesta has emergency reporting built in, it uses the Bluetooth connected phone for communication. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

Indeed, it is a legal requirement in most RoW markets (inc EMEA) now, what is disturbing is the total lack of regulation. When the civil libertarians finally twig there will be a major fuss.

Most, if not all new cars have an embedded SIM used for many different telematics purposes.
My Mercedes has a range of subscription based services, for example traffic data for navigation (very useful) being able to remotely view things like tyre pressures and fuel level, previous journeys, remote parking (scary) and most usefully being able to monitor where it is; whether it is parked or moving. Construction equipment has similar apps to monitor usage hours, temps and pressures and to do useful things like geofencing which stops a vehicle from being used somewhere it is not supposed to be. |

There are car manufacturers like Skoda that give you a badly designed software app and charge you each year for using it. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR

It also enormously increases the vehicle's attack surface for cyber crime. Expect denial of service ransom attacks and other similar events to become commonplace in the near future.
At present vehicles have no antivirus protection, no firewalls, and no protection against malware. I wonder if JLR are as good at robust software as they are with other aspects of reliability. |

That's encouraging for the heritage looks I suppose - the external disguise makes the alpine light seem unlikely, so goes to show how much it is deceiving (a good thing!). Also, a slope to the front section of roof maybe? Mighty thick B-pillar too, to restrict side view - exactly as per my 90 I suppose! |

It appears to have a couple of other "heritage" features, namely a lack of elbow room and the fact that your head is alongside the "B" post!

Lets hope they seal them better than my last LR with proper quarterlights in a D1 that they leaked like a baby does nappies.... They seem to have fixed the issue in the D3 I now have as the rear window is bonded. JLR - We know you are reading...... NO BLOODY RUBBER SEALS ! |
