Oooo yeah they cost... mine is an aftermarket system made by Coolair and their condenser is very different to the LR item. Still it costs about the same ...

Just in case you are wondering it looks like this:

I have wondered about re-coring and didn’t get very far as the repair was interrupted by a house move. Might be time to reach out to a few companies...

Any suggestions?

So my 2010 2.4 110 is loosing aircon gas and its not immediately obvious where from. tired dye etc. its on the original condensor which looks ok - for its age........

its 11 years old

should it be changed is it likely to be failure point or more likely the joint such and such always fails and is worth checking first. what tests can i do. Cheers

Mine was leaking at the back.
Couldn’t see the leak unless it was taken apart.
I did a few things that others advised but in the end had to change it.
Charging it costs quite a bit and unlike what people said the machine charging it never came up with errors because it did hold gas for a few weeks.
Mine was 9 years old.

Yes mine was leaking badly at the back.
It is very easy to take off and see.

I had no idea these were so expensive. Looks like they're all complete with frame and fan.

Glad to say mine's working fine at the moment (2014 model).

I've got an intercooler to go in at somepoint soon, and I was thinking of renewing the condenser 'while in there' as a sort of service item... but £500 is a bit much for that!

I've been through the Nissens catalogue based on condenser core dimensions (800mm x 300mm approx) and out of 162 results I think I've found three cores that look as though they could work - suitably sized with the inlet/outlet in the correct location.

Does anybody know the hose fitting size and the flange bolt size of the original Defender condenser? > 110 XS Double Cab

Just posted an order for an air-conditioning condenser with island 4x4 which has the condenser in stock.... still in the mid £400 range including VAT (20%) but free delivery Whistle

However if you are looking to order you will need to add ‘o’ rings too which are not included in the price ..

O-Ring (OEM) JUU500120
Air Conditioning Condensor Td5 2.4 Puma (OEM) JRB000051 LR025985

What mesh behind the grill did you use Andy ??
As I am about to do this job it may be a prudent time to add another layer of protection to the system .... or would it be better to replace the original plastic vented grill with a ‘series stye’ mesh type ?

Cheers !

It was just some 10mm hole mesh and bent it about, a few clever cuts and it holds its self in place. It’s been fitted to a few different grills now. I’ve also done the same to my Fiat based motorhome with black mesh. Got that stuff off eBay.

Hi all
have just fitted the new condenser to :Poppy and the job was not hard to do ...

The box .. pre work -

After removing the grill - lots of damage to the fins and the core was bent - ? from something that happened prior to my ownership ..

the condenser was removed after undoing 3 bolts and then disconnecting the cooling media lines .

new condenser fitted - took a couple of mins to gently aline one of the cooling lines due to the old condenser being pushed bak at some time

calling medium being added after 15 min pressure test - then tested - good results !
