United Kingdom 2006 Defender 110 Td5 SW Epsom Green
I've been searching around youtube... .have any motoring journo types actually been thrown the keys and told to go drive one?

Loads of clips of them stood around/in/on them (Richard Hammonds being the type I'm on about) but none allowed to drive it?

are LR too ashamed or what? Rolling Eyes

May well be happening soon I wouldn’t think they wanted them to drive the pre production ones. They all had 15mins to do a piece to camera on the same cars sat in that bit of woods and then on the stands but that’s it as far as I see. I expect full road tests will be given using the first cars off the production line like they do with other models. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

That front bash plate looks pretty substantial if it’s metal

I reckon that’s a much earlier model than what we’ve been seeing so far, it’s got a few differences like the fog lights are smaller, the silver bit on the bumper, as mentioned above looks more of a brushed metal, the tyres look like something off a concept car, I’m not even sure if the glass is even glass it’s so dark and also the mirrors are completely different, of which I actually prefer these mirrors to the ones seen previously. They look more in keeping with the original, much more familiar shape.
Edit: it looks like the wing vent/grill things are different too.

My Defender was recently in at Guy Salmon Stratford (who for a main dealer I always find very helpful) for a warranty job & they lent me a brand new Mercedes A380 for a week, my impressions of the car were that it was quite nice and efficient...translate into rather boring.

I picked my Defender up & handed the keys for the Merc back & immediately after shutting the ill-fitting Defender door I felt 'at home' which got me thinking about the future which looks rather dull; the new Defender, like every other car in the JLR line-up, doesn't pull my trigger (although I'm hoping the 90 HT will change my opinion) & as I've been driving Land Rover's since 1975 it looks highly likely that I will have to keep my present stock on the road until either hanging up my keys or being forced off the road by various ill devised green measures.

For those of us that don't fancy a 2020 Defender I feel the road ahead is blocked & I'm rather glad that for most of my adult life I've been able to own, tinker with & drive proper Land Rover's but fear the future of car ownership looks a bit grim.

Am I alone in my foreboding?

Anyone seen this?

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/feature...e-projects

The model finished in what looks a lot like the old light green paint is interesting. Can't say I'm impressed with the "if you don't like it, buy a different car" kind of attitude that comes over, nor the idea that nobody dares to "fight" with the design chief! 2011 110 USW

A quote from his autocar interview :

“What I think differentiates us as a design house is our desire to deliver modernity – reductive design, great proportions, lines of consequence and no silliness. I don’t usually talk about our competition but, when I drive to London on the motorway, I find it hard to tell one model from another. We’re never going to be like that.”

To be honest, I struggle to tell one of his own designs from another. They all look to be from the same jelly mould to me. And certainly not differentiated from the many other luxury 4x4s out there.

Also, just how the plastic tread plate, side mounted lunchboxes , flimsy mud flaps, etc, sit with "no silliness" is lost on me as well.
