Hello James,
I have been on Def2 for a few years now. My previous Defender was one of the last 110’s built (December 15) which I sold at the end of last year.
I always regretted selling the 110 as we live in the woods and she proved very useful.
The opportunity came a couple of months ago to acquire a LHD unregistered V8 Works 70th Edition which was for sale at JLR Classic. Car is going through a lengthy registration process and will be handed over to Chris Zagato for some rust prevention.
Even though the car has never been used or very little only 34 kilometers which is essentially delivery mileage, I intend to use the car daily. It won’t be tucked away in a dehumidified garage.
I like the fact it looks pretty standard and just like any other Defender you see on the roads around here so kind of below the radar and I’ll be able to go to the village without everyone talking about it!
I can’t wait to take delivery.
To clarify Chris’s posting the images I sent him: the DB4GT Zagato you see is not mine (the V12 Roadster is), the DB4GT Zagato belonged to an acquaintance who lives near me in the South of France and who has quite a collection. I did have a go in it on the beautiful roads around here and even took the car home and showed it to my father who couldn’t believe what he saw! I eventually tried to swop with my Aston but the owner wasn’t interested! Laughing

CSK!! That’s the way a Landy should be used!! Love how you are protecting it before daily driving.., even with delivery miles massive respect to you for enjoying her.

Thanks Dainger! Lovely 90 you have there too! It seems you’re looking after your cars really well! I’m in a similar situation to yours and want to protect her from the salty coastal environment, even though we live in a milder Mediterranean climate.
I bought the car unseen so if you go to Chris while she’s having her treatment, do let me know your honest thoughts!

The Islay Edition wasn’t released yet when we struck a deal on mine.
And I prefer the seats on the 70th Edition.
And I couldn’t live with the piece of teak in the boot. My dog would have made a right mess of that! Laughing

This is Joel's just in for treatment (owner of a very nice Defender 90 I have previously treated). Just cannot get over how massive it is. I am 6' which is the height of the wing mirrors. My wife in pic for scale at 5' 5" 😲

My 17 year old boy for scale... bonkers BIG although he is standing forward his head is the same height as the wing mirror also. It has a meaty 6.8 litre V8 Cool

I use the recommended Dinitrol underbody wax products (two layers 4941 & 1000 plus rust corrector RC900 or ACF-50 and cavity wax 1000 for the chassis after flushing out any muck and thoroughly cleaning the nooks and crannies. I also do the axles, rear wheel arches, rear cross member etc, inside door pillars, doors, windscreen base, bulkhead, external fixings, interior etc as per my guide. I treat the bare metal under the body cappings with ACF-50 and seal if necessary as per the LR water ingress guide. I can't detail it all but I go through the vehicle REALLY methodically!!, e.g down to air inlet & grill screws that rust or are already rusty, rivets, engine bay brackets, bonnet hinges which have bare metal between the surfaces, door hinges, wing mirrors the list goes on every chassis hole, top of chassis etc etc This isn't just a quick mornings wash and plaster with underseal on just the underside. You should never do it in a day either. It takes considerable time to dry out a chassis, and prep it, mine are in for 4 days minimum, usually each has its own dedicated week slot 😉

The real deal. This is used for expeditions to Africa and is going out again next year. It's fully adapted, used, battered, challenged and enjoyed for making incredible memories. The chassis is in remarkably good condition also Thumbs Up

One for rough stuff and off-road fun and daily use, the other is one I did from new straight from the dealership 7 years ago, which is in staggeringly good condition despite 28,000 on the clock. It's only now needed to come in for a refresh after all this time. The owner really does keep on top of her and its paying off. This example is VERY rare in this condition and worth a significant chunk over others... NOT that it's for sale of course. Look after them folks, it will pay off in the short term, let alone long run. They can rot through in areas after only a few years. You can never get them back to how they were and when you do its major surgery and cost replacing panels, welding, painting etc. The rot can all be prevented or slowed right down so easily on the body and chassis saving major cost and grief in the future. You have to regard them and maintain them like Classics to save your investment!
