No intention to go in water to.

I'm sure it's only a few mm (like 3 or 4 mm) down from the filler plug.

Some people have "topped up" to the filler plug with no apparent issues (indeed stories of better gearchanges!), ...

Do not put the filter in the box but hold it on the top so that you can engage the top correcly.
