The very best socket for removing brake caliper bolts is a Snap On SW161A 1/2” 12point socket, not really that expensive at all at £20.88. That will get all but the most rusted bolts out.

If the lip you are referring to is the door seal retaining lip it doesn’t really matter as if done properly you will be drilling out the spotwelds and sandwiching the lip against the existing lip on ...

Lots were swapped under warranty by LR for cambelt problems, I have a 1996 that has a 23L, it was swapped out by LR dealer three years old after cambelt ran off the pulleys
