10AS replacement - CL upgrade
Hello all.

I have spent hours reading up on this and can’t find the answer.

Just a point of note I live in the EU and access to independents and other helps is very hard to find so I try to do as much as I can before I go to a dealer - they aren’t great on older cars and charge me for their own learning time.

2008 2.4 puma - basic spec

I am fitting CL and electric windows. Have got all the parts now to start.

The first task I want to crack is the 10AS swap. I have got hold of the version with the CL relay.

Question is (happy for a PM if anyone is concerned about posting sensitive details), with the new 10AS fitted to the bulkhead can I transfer/copy the data from the old one before swapping the plugs over?

I have a nano - seeing mixed info on here about if it can do it.

Or do I need to go to a dealer and get them to set it up?

Any guidance would be appreciated. 2010 90 LHD soft top

You only need to do 3 things to configure a replacement 10AS to your Puma. So no need to do a data transfer. All can be done with your Nanocom if it’s at the latest build level.

1. Set the Immobiliser to the correct engine management. Eg TD5/MEMS/PUMA.

2. Undertake an EMS resync . This pairs the 10AS with the ECU so it can de-immobilise the engine ECU.

3. Undertake a Plip learn for all fobs.

Most of the other settings you will need to configure anyway as they are related to the central locking that you are adding.

What you can do is go through the setting of your current 10AS, take few pictures of the current setting screens, then manually check / set the settings on your replacement 10AS once fitted. There aren’t that many to check.

Have a look at the Nanocom emulator to see the options menus and screens

Seems to have worked - thanks Ianh

I do get a sync failure message when I use the EMS button on my nano.

But it starts and runs and the plips learned ok 2010 90 LHD soft top

The Nanocom can give some odd messages, might be worth highlighting the error message on the Nanocom forum as it may be a bug. However it must have synchronised the 10AS and Engine ECU ( unless the immobiliser function has been mapped out by a tuner) if the vehicle starts, so glad all is now working well. Thumbs Up

Ian, have you known the later 2014 black box type imobiliser system fitted to earlier vehicle? A friend of mine has a 2007 2.4 which was retrofitted by LR dealer with the late system when the 10AS went wrong.

That will be the ALM DHxxxxx unit with the separate radio unit for the Lear fobs with the chrome strip down the side.

The 10AS units went out of production due to the chips they used becoming obsolete and no longer attainable. A new ALM unit, using the old style Lucas fobs was created and used circa 2012, but that went out of production after 2 years and a second version of the ALM unit was produced in 2014. That’s the one your friend has as a replacement for their original 10AS.

These are reliable units that don’t suffer the brownout issue of the ALM CHxxxxx units fitted between 2012 and 2014.

I’m advised by blackbox solutions that the Nanocom can configure the ALM DHxxxxx units in the same way as it configures the ALM CHxxxx units. However I’m aware that the software on the Nanocom was only developed and tested on a CHxxxxxx unit and the hardware and software are different on the CHxxxxx and DHxxxxxx units.

Thanks Ianh, I’ll drop BB a line.

I entered all the data in the alarm coding page on the nano. I copied like for like from the old 10AS so maybe I didn’t need the failed sync - perhaps the ECU doesn’t see the change.

As for a tuner, before I got the immobiliser settings right the engine would crank but not start.

Either way - it’s works and I am very grateful for the advice, saved me a visit to the dealer where I would be charged 140 euro an hour while they figure out how to do it despite the TOPiX time allowance. 2010 90 LHD soft top

Sorry to piggyback onto this thread, a friend of mine has a 2013 2.2 puma engined pickup which was fitted with an ALM unit which failed.
He had a 10as unit from another car which I managed to successfully code to his car using T4.
Here come the rub of course, I now need to pair his ECM (SID209) with the 10as I retrofitted, and as anyone with any T4 experience will tell you is not going to happen, so what I'm after is some definitive advice as what will work.
This is not a commercial venture, I just want to help out an old friend and get him back on the road again.
Thanks in anticipation
Brian
