Bonnets tend to rattle when the bonding between the skin and the frame fails. The earlier ones are however the worse. Td5 bonnets have rivets which can wear into the mudguard tops.

As above, driving style can make a big difference.

But also restriction in the dpf or malfunctioning egr. Try to get an OBD and get some values, can compare.

Little heat will do the job. Mine were extremely weathered, with over 30 years in baking sun, and they pulled off easily.

Worth checking power steering fluid level, although low level will usually whine when turning steering wheel.

If thats okay, remove belt and check tensioners and alternator and PAS pump.

You probably could. But you'd have to get the drum shaft off the old spider and then machine the centre of your replacement to take the shaft, and somehow bond it so it didn't come off.

You could make a new spider from some stainless steel angle bar. Its not as difficult as it seems and you will have a machine that will last you a lifetime.
