Did you ever find out why the mainshaft was moving around? It doesnt seem to be a common issue with the adaptor's. Have you had any problems with oil leaks from the adaptor?

Hi Linds, I don't know why the main shaft moved forwards other than there was no reason why it shouldn't. The gearbox guy who looked at it immediately said there was something wrong with the set up. All conversions he's seen had to have a bolt through which was how I cured it. It may have stayed where it was without the bolt, once he'd tightened it up with BMW flange, but it wasn't worth the risk when there was a relatively simple solution. I sent a message to Shabs at synchro to ask if he'd had a problem but got no reply so I assume it isn't a problem till it becomes one Crying or Very sad As for leaking I've not seen any fresh oil under it since the conversion which is a refreshing change Laughing Citroen 2CV. Zero progress on transfer gears ( Shoulder still knackered) But I ditched the K+N filter and reinstated the puma airbox. This seemed to make the exhaust note a bit quieter, not sure why, I also put the engine cover on for a more factory look Rolling with laughter Citroen 2CV. (Written off)

Back in workshop for more surgery

Transfer box out as too low geared. I was going to tackle this myself but I just don't have enough kit ( Bench press) or confidence and shoulder is still very painfull (awaiting an op) Embarassed

I'm now going to return the box and gear set back to Ashcroft transmissions and let them deal with it. While they're in there I'm getting an ATB fitted. Citroen 2CV. (Written off)

Interestingly when I removed transfer box the pin I put in the BMW output shaft converter was snapped in two places Shocked I'm not sure how that happened. One snap I could understand. Anyhow I deducted from this that since the shaft didn't move forward and create the stuck in gear problem I had that it wasn't worth replacing, drilling output shaft and recutting the thread. Ashcroft transmissions sorted the ratio change and fitted an ATB while they were in there. I have now put it all back together and the ratio change has made the gears much more user friendly. 70mph is around 2000rpm maybe a bit more but I can confirm this next time I'm on a motorway or decent length dual carriageway. I may even have got away with the 1.003 ratio but I do tow a heavy trailer from time to time so I'm happy with this ratio. If you do this same conversion as I have with a 110 defender and use the same gearbox I would recommend factoring in this ratio change while your at it. Citroen 2CV. (Written off)

It's been a year now and still an absolute joy to drive.

Changed the air inlet set up from this

to this. The difference was amazing. Tickover went from 1100rpm to 800rpm, throttle response, power and sound all improved.

Also removed the centre box from the exhaust for a throatier sound which makes me happy Very Happy

Also cut this hole in the air intake and put in a bit of guttering to divert and hopefully force a bit more air into engine. All little adjustments but very satisfying improvements. Citroen 2CV. (Written off)

Sounds like youre coming to the end of the build then Tim you've done a good job.

How do you find the ATB? I love them.

odd regarding the output shaft and issues with teh change. Do hope I don't encounter the same.

Need an update on that noise btw, can't be having too loud now Thumbs Up Luke Marsden
