An innocent little puddle turned out to be a 1 meter deep hole 😩
Tried the usual tricks of trying to fill the hole with rocks..but I could not pull myself out with one wheel barely touching the slippery surface. Time to call rescue 🤠Luckily I was going very slow, so just a little bent bumper.. easy fix. Although I need to check the sill, as the side steps might have pushed it up a bit (door is rubbing now). ![]() Click image to enlarge 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Finally got the double-din dash + new radio fitted, Madman neatly mounted on the side as well.

Hey Naks, any chance you could tell me how much room there is behind those side panels. Looking to install a rather deep temp/pressure gauge there myself but the whole truck is in pieces currently so can't find out myself ![]() Gauge in question: ![]() Click image to enlarge(the bend protected pipe is the limiting factor not the black pressure pipe) Stuart ![]() Cummins 130 Build Thread 58 130 Double Cab HCPU - Cairns Blue 04 110 Double Cab - Black (gone) 07 Audi RS4 Avant - Silver |

^ That looks pretty deep if you have the double din unit in also, its all a bit tight behind them.
The angle that gauge goes in looks to be the brass type connection would fowl the radio? I will try and get a picture of my side panel as its quite easy to clip off (another job I need to do is fix it in better) ---------- My Defender job was Drive to Garage, MOT. Thanks Stacey, would be very much appreciated!
No double din to worry about (personally think they look naff with all the tacky shiny plastic) and the large connector for the backlight is between the 2 and 3 o'clock position with the other two at 6 and 12 if that makes sense. Basically holding the gauge upside down in that photo so there is nothing on the left hand side as you look from the face side with the lengths of threaded rod being for mounting so can be lopped as required. So with everything being to the right I think I can bag a little more room ![]() Congrats on the MOT! ![]() 110 looking very classy with those mud flaps and no window tints ![]() ![]() Cummins 130 Build Thread 58 130 Double Cab HCPU - Cairns Blue 04 110 Double Cab - Black (gone) 07 Audi RS4 Avant - Silver |

OK not very scientific but there seems to be a lot more room than I thought, the angle must be enough to keep it away from the double din unit.
I used a cleaned yogurt pot to push in the hole... now I have a USB cable coming out of said hole so it was a quick job on the school run as I didn't want to push the cable back through. To my surprise you have a fair bit of room. You can see the cable actually stopping it. it would go a bit further and worse case you could space it out at the front slightly with a large rubber washer? ![]() Click image to enlarge I reckon you have a good 60mm Maybe more, I'm due out soon so when parked up will have another look. |
