One “advantage” of the Scottish travel restrictions during the last wave here was quiet roads, wish I had been able to have this experience but I live in the adjoining health area and at the time we couldn’t travel out of our own area........ one thing for sure it won’t be until the next “wave” that the road across Rannoch Moor and through Glencoe will be this quiet again

Well,
Here in Chile vaccination process are going quite well. my Wife and I already have both shoots from the chinese one and probably all our childrens will be vaccinated in 2-3 months more. Some specialist are talking about the need of a 3rd shoot.

Some hints to take in account.
After the vaccination of the older people the cases of COVID in this group has been reduced dramatically compared with the younger population that rigth now have a higher rates of infection, complications and deaths. So, the vaccine really have good effects.

But not all the things are good news. The 2nd wave, despite vaccination, has been quite heavy and was neccesary to put almost all the population in a lockdown for almost 1 month to do not collapse the medical services (in special with young people that still are not vaccinated).

With that, we were able to down the cases and ease the restrictions in some areas but still the situation is not fully controlled. So, Social distancing, mask use and other measures are still in force.

Cheers! Eduardo

Well, in Aussie, we thought we'd got on top of this thing, but no, we have not, the "Delta" strain, being currently pretty much out of control in NSW,.... & Victoria & Qld battling hard to contain outbreaks.
We've had a few "stumbles" with our Vax programs, but are steadily improving our percentage of vaxxed people. We are hoping to have 80% vaxed by 31/12.
However, in view of people (about 30% I reckon) who don't like, don't want, ain't gonna put that stuff in me, etc etc, I reckon we'll be lucky to get to 70% I do not understand anyone not wanting the Vax, you're far more likely to die from the disease than you are from the Vax. However, I understand that we live in a democracy & people can make up their own mind.
So, how are you guys going in the UK, I hear you've "opened up", but then I still see 20,000+ daily infections?....So on this basis, how is your daily living affected, how are your hospitals coping?...There's not much "surplus" capacity in our hospitals, I don't know how any BIG outbreak would be dealt with.
Anyway, How are you guys dealing with it?
Pickles.

The latest daily infection number is over 30,000. A lot of those are people who have been vaccinated, of course. Fully vaccinated friends with a positive test have experienced everything from no symptoms at all, to a week in bed feeling quite rough. Vaccination has significantly (but by no means completely) reduced the impact of the level of infection.

The UK has just under 6000 in hospital at present, I believe, many of whom inevitably are those who have not been fully vaccinated. Lots of anecdotal reports of people or their families regretting not having accepted the vaccine. Last daily deaths figure was 92, up 24 on last week.

We're only really beginning to see the impact of the final stage of unlocking, and data has been complicated by the Euros and by the end of the school term, summer holiday period etc. No-one is quite sure what will happen come September/October with schools, universities and workplaces back. Hopefully vaccination will continue to make good progress, although the rate is slowing (and we are falling behind other European nations) as we work through the less worried younger age groups.

^^^ Worth remembering that UK stats are for people who’ve been hospitalised ‘with’ COVID, not because of Covid. Likewise with the collation of deaths, which are included if you have died for any reason within 28 days of a positive test. General rule of thumb is that this method of statistical collection has overestimated those who’ve died ‘of’ COVID by a huge amount. And as for daily positive cases, if you go looking for it, you’ll find it. How many people annually carry flu or colds asymptomatically but we don’t know because we’re not looking for it? Whilst there will be people (cases) where people do react, a little or a lot, the vast majority of these ‘cases’ are nothing more than a statistic, a statistic we’re chasing and that the media are plastering everywhere. 30k cases a day on average the last few months, but just 600 odd admissions per day (2%) and as I mentioned above, those are people who could have been admitted for any reason, including because of illness caused directly as a result of Covid, but equally for all manner of other ailments but are carrying Covid. If weren’t testing everyone, everywhere, only those admitted to hospital with/beCause of Covid, our daily cases would be 600-700 not 30k. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Vaccines and reaction to Wasp and Bee stings:

I’ve had many wasp and bee stings over the years and the pain aside I’ve never had any other side effects. Since becoming double vaccinated with Oxford AZ vaccine I’ve been stung twice by wasps and both times I’ve have had lengthy (more than a week) itching, swelling and pain from the sting site.

Has anybody else found any not previously experienced side effects from wasp/bee venon after completion of double vaccination? I’m a daily reporter on Zoe and am also one of those selected by ONS/NHS for monthly PCR and blood testing but neither website has any way to report things like this. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Double vaccinated with AZ and stood on a bee with bare feet last month. Haven't had a bee string for many a year so the initial pain was not something I was familiar with.

My wife used a solution of bicarb of soda in a little water within 5 mins and I have to say that with 15 mins I couldn't even feel I'd been stung.

I tried all the home doctor type reliefs like ice pack over sting and vinegar that have previously worked for me but neither had any effect whatsoever on both occasions. I was also gardening - 1st time harvesting runner beans and 2nd was hacking back a climbing hydrangea - second one I was worried that I might have disturbed a wasp nest up in the overgrowth of the climber but it was only a single wasp that stung me. Apparently wasp venon contains a pheromone that will attract other wasps to a wasp in trouble…….. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

The wife and I are both double vaccinated, both AZ.
Wife never had a problem with mosquito bites before being vaccinated, never really noticed them, but now she suffers quite badly, bites seem to be active for a long time and swell quite a bit. 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !!

Interesting. I am double-jabbed and as it happens yesterday I disturbed a wasps' nest and was stung twice on the right hand, once on the back of the hand between the knuckles of the first and second fingers, and once on the other side of the hand directly below the other sting. Usually wasp stings have little effect on me after a few hours, but I have to say that these two are itching like anything today, I don't remember this ever happening before. There is no swelling and no visible mark any more, but the itch is significant. It's also making me itch in places which were not stung.

Still, it's better than dying of Covid! Thumbs Up

Well, here in Aussie, we are still battling Covid, although luckily it is basically contained within our two major States, N.S.W. & Victoria, where yesterday around 2000 new cases were detected.
There have been some dreadful "so called" anti-vax demonstrations, "so called" because the belief is that these are being stirred by right wing marxists, people who want to stir up trouble, who have their own agenda, want to fight the Police etc.
Australia is at the moment 61.7% 1st dose & 40.9% 2nd dose, and strong restrictions are in place in the two States where the Virus is happening. We are endeavoring to slowly "open up" when we get to 70% 1st dose & then further when we get to 80% etc.
I note that you guys in the U.K. are at 89.6 1st & 82.2 2nd, so we have a way to go to catch you, but we have a problem with certain suburbs/areas of our country where people will NOT obey the rules, creating issues for others who are doing their best to "stop the spread".
We have been locked down in Melbourne for several months, which is not pleasant. ....can only go 5ks from our home for exercise, local shopping etc, can't visit family members in their home etc, pubs, restaurants, Gyms, sports grounds, shopping centres all closed, construction/building etc shut down for two weeks because of non compliance with Covid rules.
I see you guys are still copping infections of around 35,000 a day,....Is that not a worry?
Pickles.
