Don't think I can justify ATB's at the moment. Looking for a cost effective way to upgrade just the front diff rather than changing both front and rear to expensive ATB units Laughing Four pin diff up front will be ok for my drive to Italy

Thinking Aschroft's 4 pin diff centre looks like a reasonably priced option. I also have a spare diff I could use for buildup https://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/4-pin-diff-centre.html > 110 XS Double Cab

Air con gassed today with the new condenser. No leaks detected on the leak test, 700g gas, leak tracing fluid and oil pumped in... Icy cold air conditioning once again Thumbs Up Will make a big difference driving through France.

One thing the guy said which I had completely wrong in my mind was to use the AC as much as possible. I actively try to use it as little as possible, kind of preservatively I suppose. He said this does the components no good. > 110 XS Double Cab

As well as the refrigerant gas there's some oil in the system. Among other things that keeps the O-rings from drying out. Additionally, AC is good for dehumidifying the interior, which given most Defender's sieve-like tendencies is no bad thing.

So, if you use the AC it will eventually wear out. But if you don't use it the AC will die without any benefit. Personally I use mine at least once a week regardless of the temperature.

Missed your reply Clayton - thanks!

Made a start on the dogs seat for the drive down to Italy. Having the dog in the front frees up the rear seats for luggage which is essential since double cabs are crap for load space.

These front centre seats are not meant for Puma's and their mounts position the seat too far forward meaning it nudges the transfer box shifter into neutral so I cut the mounts off and welded in two lengths of 25mm square hollow section to the seat frame which pick up to the cubby box fixings.

I appreciate that this would fail an MOT and that the cubby fixings are not beef enough to mount a seat etc... But it's just somewhere for the dog to sit and will be swapped back to the cubby when I return home

Had to wait for the paint to dry but will fit the seat covers and put it in the Defender later

What a great idea, looking forward to seeing it fitted. How big is the dog? WARNING.

XS seat cover fitted and in the vehicle. Bit of a squeeze with the premium seats!! Dog is small/medium, around 16kg… Jack Russel mongrel cross

Looks good! You say that about the middle seat, but the standard front seats are held in place with 4 oversized m8 rivnuts. No different to the cubby box fixings.. Instagram @defender_ventures

Next job this evening was the panhard rod bushes. My steering had developed a notch between left and right turns as well as a general feeling of vagueness. You could see the rod eyes move with steering input!

Ordered a superpro full vehicle kit from Gwyn Lewis and did the panhard bush this evening… Notch is gone and steering is a lot more positive. Will get the other bushes on over the next week or two.

Seat is looking good!
Will be interested to know how you get on with the super pro bushes. I’m torn on whether to go for super pro or genuine in the future.
