Was yours chuffing at idle with the oil cap off? Or were they only leaking under power. Asking because mine has zero chuff at idle (almost seems like a vacuum) but makes an almighty injector racket under mid throttle... Roaming around 🇳🇴🇨🇭

Chuff at idle yeah. Opened the oil cap and it puffed oil spots all over the underside of the bonnet > 110 XS Double Cab

Useful little addition. Had previously been using a cigarette lighter USB adaptor but found it caused DAB reception interference

Focal ES100K components fitted. Really pleased with the improved clarity!! But think a sub is needed as 10cm drivers struggle to provide volume or low end

The grey vinyl interior panels are in the process of going black. Modern vehicles tend to have dark headliners and as the dash, seats, carpets etc are black I thought why not. Currently waiting on more cans of dye to complete and refit.

It's a fairly slow process as you have to go easy and build the layers up bit by bit. If you go too thick you end up with a glossy patch.

So far so good, the two big headlining panels need another couple of coats as they are still a bit patchy but the little panels look great!

Dark headlinings and trim make a big difference IMO, I'm sure you'e aware but you can get black/grey fir tree clips too. Thumbs Up I can't quite make out if you've sprayed the lining itself or the fabric affixed to it? Looks great either way. 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

Yes I ordered a bunch of black for trees to complete the job Thumbs Up

I left the vinyl on the panel and dyed straight onto it after giving the panels a bath, a sit in front of the log burner and a wipe over with acetone... Acetone seems to almost melt the vinyl though so if anybody does this don’t go too heavy on the acetone!

Mrs hank was really pleased Whistle

Additional spray cans arrived yesterday so I built up some more coats... The final finish is honestly better than I had hoped for! Very very pleased with how it has turned out. Time will tell on longevity but initial indications suggest the black is quite hard wearing.

Refitted the panels this afternoon but it was dark by the time I finished so completed photos to follow...

Just need to work out what to do with the sun visors Neutral

Another good job done this evening, fitting the gear selector assembly LR052893 bushes in an effort to make the gear shift that little bit more positive.

I followed MartinK’s guide linked below... Only difference being I managed to remove all four bolts without needing to remove the plastic transmission tunnel cowl using a knuckle joint on the socket. I also fitted four bushes rather than just two for a belt and braces approach. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic29132.html

Initially impressions are that the change into second and third is definitely better. Well worth the two quid and hours work!

^^^ i have just done this mod. i fitted two as intended it may no odds on mine. so removed them and then fitted all four but upside down so they lifted the selector housing slightly. Much better after that. its was all tight clamped down before. Cheers

Focal ibus 2.1 sub fitted yesterday. Original plan was to fit it under the cubby in a mud uk sub locker which I had purchased ready for the job.

Got into fitting but just couldn't get on with the cubby on top of the locker as I found it too high. So on to plan b which was a lot more work but a much better outcome for me personally.

Annoyingly the space between the second row seat striker brackets was too narrow by about 5mm so we slotted the bolt holes by a few mm either side to allow them to shift outwards slightly and provide clearance to accommodate the ibus 2.1 in between.
The speaker signal wiring looks a bit messy in the photos but has since been tidied similar to the power wiring so it now goes out through the floor via a grommet, inside conduit externally and back inside at the rear of the seat box.

The sound now is incredible! The components provided good clarity and top end but still the system was lacking mid and low range as well as volume. I'm big into music and audio so this is something that has been lacking in my Defender from day one so very very happy with the result

A bonus that I was not expecting is that the front component speakers sound even better amped via the ibus 2.1 than they did amped through the Alpine head unit. I don't really understand why or how but this arrangement has taken the front component speakers to the next level! Even with the sub turned off.

Hi Hank
Was the harness that came with the iBus long enough with the rear seat location or did you have to extend it ? You mentioned running the wires externally in conduit ... where did you bring them back in to connect to the head unit ?
Thanks
Tony
