Windscreen hinges and bulkhead corrosion
Hello all

I've had to take the Landy in to my local dealer as I've spotted some corrosion on the windscreen brackets (the ones replacing the hinges) and also on the bulkhead to either side of said brackets.

I've just been told by the dealer that the 'hinges' brackets are only covered for a year for corrosion??? Mine were painted by the supplying dealer as part of the limited edition 'Heritage' models they produced, not that that should matter.

Is this for real? How can Landrover say they have a five year corrosion warranty and then exclude certain parts which are integral to the structure of the vehicle? Or am I being given the run-around?

Anybody out there have any knowledge on this, also is there a Landrover rep on here?

Thanks all.

When I had warranty work done on mine I was told paint had a 3 year warranty and corrosion was for 5... but... bolt on parts were not covered even if they had corroded... so in my case the windscreen blocks were not covered even though they did the windscreen surround under warranty.

This is something which has been discussed many times and everyone seems to get a different level of service dependent on your relationship with your dealer.

In my case all warranty work was out sourced to an independent company so they were happy to spray the blocks for me at the same time as long as I bought them... which I did.. genuine ones from Powerful UK for Β£30... so I didn't feel too aggrieved.

As above, it seems a common issue with dealers. I'd look at fitting a set of billet aluminium ones, less likely to suffer the same fate that way. 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

same thing for me, just in September. they replaced the windscreen, fixed and painted the windshield surround, replaced the rubber moulding, but the windshield blocks I had to pay for. Rolling Eyes

EDIT: I never did receive the bill for the windscreen blocks, but I did get notice from my insurance that the stealer charged them 1178 CHF for the windscreen.... so yeaaah. Roaming around πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄πŸ‡¨πŸ‡

Dealer did mine also about 2 years ago along with corrosion around the windscreen. MY2015, so must have been about 3 years old. In fact they have it right now for corrosion around the windscreen again (second time!).

The entire body is a bolt on part!

It's 3 years paint surface corrosion, 6 years rust penetration

Sure but that is not the reality of what JLR approves. At five years they approved surface corrosion. But not bolt on parts. We can be pedantic but there is little to no recourse. The monies are just to small. Better to know what is being approved today because it’s all over in a very short time. Roaming around πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄πŸ‡¨πŸ‡

I think if you were in the UK and threatened legal action, you would find that the work was carried out. Most large companies don’t want the expense of a day out in court. I am surprised no one did as the β€˜bolt on parts’ bit looked a little shaky to say the least. I believe everyone got despondent by the attitude of JLR and a high proportion of the dealerships and just rolled over and took the excuses.

I am very surprised about the window blocks not being covered but as has been said, it seems a lottery

That's interesting a dealer is doing my surface corrosion at 5 years. There seems to be no consistency. Is it the Dealers or JLR?

Thanks all for the responses.

By way of update the initial warranty claim was rejected because the dealer took photographs only of the 'Hinge' clamp and missed the other corrosion entirely! No one informed me of this as there seems to be no such desire to inform a customer so I only discovered this on ringing the bodyshop myself.

My second attempt on the 6/11 where I actually pointed out the corrosion while he pointed the camera has also been rejected as it appears that the JLR warranty chump is now saying he needs a certain amount of photos to process the claim - he's obviously not telling exactly how many because that would be too easy, there just needs to be a certain amount.

BTW they also didn't bother to tell me this either and again I only found out after repeated chasing.

I was losing the will to live tbh but then it occurred to me thats exactly what they want. So. This is my Lockdown 2.0 obsession. I live for nothing else but chasing JLR for my rust warranty. I have ignored my job as a safety officer at a nuclear testing facility, misplaced my children and divorced my overly demanding wife as she keeps wanting me to 'go out with her' at the weekends when I need to review strategy and planning for my JLR social media assault. BUT I will prevail. Onwards.

BTW: anyone on here know the JLR rep on Def2?

its crap the way they treat customers and even worse how they built the things in the first place, only consolation is the new ones cost over twice as much and appear to have 10x as many issues DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

All power to you Petronius4

It seems so obvious to us... that with known Defender corrosion issues JLR should just take the long view
and sort them out and certainly not alienate an existing... and potentially future customer.

If Def2 has no repeat issues like this then they have taken away the problem...

Good luck with your JLR Lockdown Mission 2.0 Thumbs Up
