United Kingdom 2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey
SKIP'S 90110 Diary
Hello All

I've been a member of D2N for over 8 years now and remain appreciative of both
the knowledge to found here and the sense of community amongst members...
long may it continue... Thumbs Up

I thought it was time to 'pull things together' with a My Defender thread...
Not really a build thread, more a record of living with a Defender... or in our case 2
with the recent purchase of 'Fuji' by my Wife... Cool

My 90 Dec 2010 2.4 tdci (owned from 2013)

My Wife's 110 May 2011 2.4 tdci (owned from 2022)

It has taken some time to find what we were looking for (most of this year to date)
a late 2.4 tdci Puma 110 with low mileage, in excellent condition, but I think we have found her...

We are both really pleased with her, the experience of ownership will be the real test but I
hope we have given ourselves a fighting chance with this 110.

We bought 'My' 90 (moving on from a 300tdi) when Land Rover announced that the Defender
(as we knew it) was coming to an end... but then as we now know, it didn't end until 2016.

When we set out this year to try and find a 'good one', I expected (rightly) a tougher search...
my 90 had 6K on the clock when we bought it which was below average for a 3 year old Defender
looking for a 11-12 year old 110 I was 'reconciled' to expect average mileage (but hoped for better)
with condition being the main criteria.

What we have is a 5 Door, 5 Seat, Base Specification, 110 Station Wagon (in Fuji White Cool)
with a Land Rover Expedition Roof Rack and Rear Ladder, (My Wife is a Paddle Boarder) a LR
Tow Frame with 13 Pin Electrics... absolutely a stock vehicle in almost every regard.

She looks like she was prepared as part of a batch order for the UN... but never went...
A life (as yet) essentially 'unlived' with just 23K on the clock.

Plans already underway with the drawing up of a to-do list... Shocked
Security, Dinitrol... and it's first Road Trip...

The adventures of a 90 and 110 continue... SKIP

Added the DEFENDER name to the 110, utilising the 'flat-spot' in the bodywork where Land Rover
use to graphic the name (200-300 tdi's and TD5's) but appeared to stop doing this with the arrival
of the Puma's.

LAND ROVER or DEFENDER on the Bonnet is OK but I personally like the Name on the Front as well
as the Rear...

Both such nice vehicles- but I’m really drawn to the 110. Fiji white in such good condition looks incredible. Please keep us updated with plenty of pictures. 2008 2.4 110 Utility XS.

They both looked great.
I wondered if your 90 was a BLR build but the badge has confirmed that Thumbs Up BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group

Thank you BrickBox

The Fuji White 110 'rights a wrong'... We have only ever bought 1 new Defender, a 300tdi which we held for 19years... loved it. It was originally ordered in White, but I 'bottled out' changing the specification half way through the order (just in time by 1 Day) to Niagara Grey... OK but I always regretted not following through with a White one. It's also the best colour if you haven't got Air Conditioning... Cool

Thanks mini Anaconda

90
My Wife spotted this 90 (I have now returned the favour by finding 'Fuji') it was interesting in so far as it was Mechanically unchanged, but had Cosmetic Works undertaken for a Customer who changed his mind (wanting the same on a 110). The principle inside change beyond Leather and Alcantara Fabric was the swap over from 4 to 6 Seats (like our 300tdi).

BLR had a sort and somewhat chequered history before being absorbed into Nene Overland, (it sourced and prepared around half the Defenders used in the filming of Skyfall). My judgement at the time was that the workshop had some skilled staff, this 90 was initially a show model for what they could do (cosmetically). I had it independently inspected with somewhere I trust and we agreed that we were looking at a nearly new vehicle, unused (but modified) so decided to make an offer, which when agreed did not see us paying what typically a 'shopped' Defender try's to make. My only problems with her over some 8 years / 45K Mileage have been 'standard' Defender issues... Shocked SKIP

I didn't realise that 110 Station Wagons were available with 5 seats, I thought standard was 7 seats? BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group

Hello mini Anaconda

I'm learning as I go too... I think it all comes down to the option boxes ticked.

We would have taken a 7 Seater although the load space is somewhat compromised
when the 2 forward facing Rear Seats are folded away.

We may yet install 2 more Seats which may be side facing...

What we did want was Glass all round... for manoeuvring... Shocked

110 5 Seats

The Rear Load Space gets our Labradors 'approval'...

Apart from bringing the 110 home (we travelled to get this one Exclamation )
our first mini 'road trip' took her to the South Coast.

I will probably resist adding checker plate wing tops, but do appreciate how useful they are as both our 300tdi and current 90 has them. I do occasionally stand on them to get a better view and often use this area as a 'shelf' when out and about, it's also been known to undertake the odd bit of maintenance under the bonnet... where a line up of tools and coffee cups soon accumulates on the wing tops.

Maybe Colour Matched Plates would be OK... certainly practical for our use... SKIP

No checker plate was one of my criteria when I was looking for a Def. And it was not so easy to find one stock Wink

The low mileage 110 isn't an ex LR experience defender is it? They tend to be low mileage well maintained. But clue is finding bits of mud in chassis and other places which are harder to clean

Hello lolo

110 Wing Top Checker Plate
I'm going to see how we get on as we are, so currently no plans to fit anything... I like the idea though of a Defender being a 'Climbing Frame' if it makes the modifications fitted more practical. With the Full Length Roof Rack on the 110... being able to 'navigate' around this, at high level, makes sense to me.

Hello Jon w
Land Rover Experience Vehicle
It's an interesting observation, but not this 110. Sold originally by LR in West London to a private owner and from what we have managed to establish, has spent most its life there or thereabouts. Certainly it looks to have not been used in anger off road, or apparently anywhere much, (Mileage per year is around 2K).

Rear Seats look unused, Side Steps and even the Rear Drop Down Step (that rot out quickly) looks to be as new...possibly some equipment could have been replaced, but we think this 110 has just benefitted from being kept inside for most its life. The Rear Ladder has no discernible scuff marks on the rungs at all, The Roof Rack has no corrosion only UV damage on the plastic (non-sense) gaskets at each Bracket Position (which will be swapped out for Leather ones).

She's just a very clean example, which after some corrosion protection planned will now get used...
