OK got the car back and the problem is solved. I attach the invoice of the work done (keep in mind that they also performed a service).
The only issue following this repair is the steering wheel being heavy on return when turning and the breaks feeling different... I may just get used to it or give them a ring tomorrow. Alex Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge http://instagram.com/h4vou/ |

lf they've replaced the "ball joints" (l assume they mean the swivel balls) then the steering will most likely feel a bit stiff compared to how it was before.
That's because the swivels are supposed to have a preload on them and it's often zero on a Defender where it's not been checked for years. And again, the brakes will feel different if they've replaced any parts. So long as the pedal isn't spongy and it pulls the Land Rover up straight then they are likely OK. |

Normally shock absorbers replaced in pairs
And please change the 4 tyres from there recommendation if they are 20 years old they are well past there best Glad shake is gone, could of been from a number of places looking at the bill. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing. 5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Does the stearing wheel come back to straight ahead position by it's own or not? If not something is to tight.
Drive belt? I think they mean ancillary belt. Only 1 oil filter? A td5 has an oil filter and an centrifugal filter. I would ask if they replaced both. But nearly 20 years old tires on a 17 year old Land Rover? Age is not my main concern but by that age you will probably see cracks in the rubber near the rim and in the profile off the tires, that is not good. Because off the cracks you get stress points in the structure off the tire. Further: your Landy is about new now. If they’re 20 years old, replace them.
Don’t get TR’s again , they’re rubbish off road, and in snow, and not great on road either. 👍🏻 2002 td5 90 county hardtop |

The problem with tyres is that you're likely to get as many recommendations as there are tyre types. My current favourite is the General Grabber AT3 as it's quiet on the road and is winter rated, so will be good in snow and ice. Lots of folks favour the current BFG AT, although there have been quite a few questioning its performance in the wet. The OEM fitted Continental Crosstrac has a good reputation and many are pleased with the AT offering from Cooper. You pay your money and take your choice, really. Darren

Free engine mounts then?
Whats a cabin filter? In lieu of comeback to fault finding questions, I guess engine mounts at fault. Cheers James 110 XS Utility 130 Puma Station wagon/camper (in the making) 90 Puma Hardtop |

thats wouldnt make the engine vibrate, thread title is engine vibrating
that would make the whole vehicle vibrate at speed. i was annoyed earlier as i try to help people diagnose problems. alot come on here, post the problem, then when asked some questions, never answer them. such as this thread. its hard to remote diagnose when people dont answer the questions, sort of asks the question why bother with the post. and i did mention the timing here :
in response to this:
just to put the record straight. So yes i was trying to help in response to your post. i posed a few questions never had answers, got annoyed, you then replied, i asked a load more questions then nothing back again. But none the less you have it fixed which is good news and the garage must be delighted as must you. do you really want suggestions on tyres or just asking to waste a bit more time?
