Yeah I get the vat thing, I was more thinking that if the vat wasn’t reclaimable (as I think was alluded to above) then you’d be better off buying a sw even if you took the rear seats out to use as a van.

My understanding (might be wrong......) is that the HMRC case is about the company car tax rules and personal benefits rather than VAT as such.......

Both models, 90 & Hardtop, are mentioned in the e-mail.

Yes not VAT related but surely applicable to a hard top where there's personal use?

But personal use is relevant in any HMRC regs regardless of the classification of the vehicle used.......

I know a couple of guys with logo'd vans that were 'caught' getting shopping in at the local supermarket and had to file P11D (or whatever its called) forms.......

Yes but there's a large difference in the financial impact between the two.

I'm not going to dispute the actual figure. But that diagram you have posted is not the same as the one Tim did.

e.g. clearly showing the length does not include the spare:

I have to laugh at the comments regarding the rear seats. Some people really seem to forget what the previous 90 was like. In the rear, you had either

- no seats ( but reasonable boot space )
- side facing not very comfy bench seats where you could rest your chin on your knees and ate into the boot space
- front facing seats where your feet sat to the side slightly and ate up even more boot space.

Now you have a combination decent rear seats, which when folded leave the whole boot space with a small step of a few inches in the rear floor. Disaster !

Not really relevant though is it. The old 90 was a completely different kind of vehicle.

Mines from the latest brochure, overall length must include the tyre, I would’ve thought.

The personal spec brochures give better details of the dimensions

If there is little difference in purchasing cost between the commercial & SW versions, best consider which would have the best resale value - I'd have thought the sw would retain more?

If your a business then the actual TAX / VAT designation makes a huuuge difference.......currently the 'classic' Defender can only be run commercially in 90 HT form, a SW would attract company car tax and be non VAT qualifying

Really?? I think my acountant has it wrong then Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter . I've been running my 63 plate 110 USW as a commercial vehicle since new and claimed the VAT back.
The BiK is a huge amount different to the SW version, talking £k's, as it's only me and the MRs and the 2 dogs it made sense not to have the 3rd row seats and no rear windows.
Now looking at the 110 hardtop to replace it with 110 D250 SE HT
110 USW SOLD
RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it
VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys

Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD

There is almost no financial gain when buying it to get a commercial version unless you’re VAT registered. Which I’m not. Therefore it would make no sense to me at all to choose the Commercial version Sold the Puma Defender and bought a brand new Pangea Green 2020 Defender D240 S with a few factory extras!
