Warning: downer alert...

So my aunt, having been released home from hospital in the UK after surviving respiratory complications from the virus has just been rushed back in again with serious heart complications Sad
Please tell anyone who doubts this is a serious disease and claims "my lungs are fine"...

This was my wife's response:

I asked for something in black but she said flowers look "more friendly" - I fear she may be losing the plot... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Ain't NO doubts here.
This is serious, but the solution is simple,..SELF ISOLATE,....do not see ANYONE,...if we all do that, this disease will not have anywhere to go,.....so please,.....SEE NO ONE,....Have NO CONTACT.
SELF ISOLATE, SEE NO ONE,...for your own sake, and for all our sakes.
If you stay in your own home, the disease cannot reach you.
Pickles..

I was a retired CT Radiographer but came out of retirement in January to work as part of a 10 site national Lung screening trial service for patients between the age of 55 to 74 who are smokers or have been a smokers in the past. The CT Lung screening trial scheme run by NHS England and local CCGs identified 10 areas in the country who have/had the most Cancer related recorded lung pathologies. The trial was to gather data for the possible future roll out of low dose CT lung screening schemes around the country to try and identify early stage Lung Nodules/Cancers. I work for a private company who have purchased 4 specialist mobile low dose CT scanners and support vehicles to deliver this service, the NHS has absolutely no capacity to be able to carry out these trials/services.

As of of 2 weeks ago the service was suspended and we were moved to a different site with in the same NHS Trusts area to deliver a mobile CT rapid access acute diagnostic service. Our patient coehort are currently Oncology patients who have Cancer(staging) been treated for Cancer or suspected of having Cancer. With out this CT mobile service many of the trusts Oncology patients will have to wait considerably longer for their scans due to the trust being absolutely snowed under with Covid-19 patients and a shortage of staff.

We have been informed there is a possibility that we may be moved to the NEC Birmingham Field hospital that is currently being constructed to delivery CT services 7 days a week 24 hrs a day.

I have just finished 5 x 12 hours shifts in a row and feel absolutely wrecked but I believe I need to do my bit to try and support the NHS and my colleagues and deliverer the very best service for patients we/I can.

I know it's been said numerous times in this thread but from a clinical professional working on the front line who has seen patients with severe Covid-19 please listen to the advice given.

Stay safe and well.

Don

My mum's cousin died of the virus on Thursday. He was 80 and had a lung condition, so had little chance.

Although we've never doubted the seriousness of this (in fact it was posts on this forum a few Saturdays ago that made me start to take proper notice of it), it really brought it home to us.

As Pickles says, let's do just what we're told.

There aren't enough thanks possible for our magnificent NHS (and private medical) staff.
