Gear lever splitting
So the knob part of my gear stick seems to be splitting in half (as in the top is coming away) on my Puma, not heard of this happening to anyone else.

Guess I will be on the look out for a replacement...

It's been reported here few times before. Bad thing is stick and knob are one piece, so you can’t just unscrew knob and replace that alone. Genuine part number is UKJ500100PMA, very expensive. Maybe worth checking if you can find one at a breaker?

This inexplicably happened to mine. The head itself cracked into three or four pieces. I got a replacement on ebay > 110 XS Double Cab

Isn't it the same stick as a transit?

I'd imagine they're cheap to come by Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Transit lever seems different.

Wondering if while I'm changing the lever it might be woth fitting a slickshift?

Very happy with the way it functions now but wondering what all the fuss is about?

Don't supppose anyone in the Cornwall area has one fitted to a Puma for a comparison ?

If you did go that far you may as well stick the spacers in too, they might help improve things too. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Can you clarify what spacers you are refering to?

Thanks

Paid £20 for my replacement gearstick from ebay. I would definitely recommend a short shifter. I have the shift-r, really nice positive satisfying mechanical clunk and shortened throw > 110 XS Double Cab

Also went for the shift R - changed the lever for a leather one would let the original go for £30 posted

Thanks for all the feed back. Not aware of the Shift-r, is it the same priciple just by a different company or are there merits to one over the other.

Thanks for the offer of the replacement stick, Think I have one locally but if that fall through I will be in touch.

Curiously enough a sizeable chunk of my knob fell off as I drove home from work this evening, leaving said knob with an unsightly disfigurement! Shocked On close inspection it is clear that the knob has cracked over time and eventually several cracks joined up and a chunk fell out.

I notice that the lever is Ford branded, which is perhaps not surprising given that it is stuck on top of a Getrag box, but it does make me wonder if there is a Ford part number or if it is used on any Ford vehicles. Anyone know?

The price of a new one from JLR is pretty shocking, even by JLR standards, and even take-offs etc on eBay seem steep. I imagine that if there is a Ford part it too will be pricey, but if it is used on other Ford vehicles it widens the search parameters.
