Remove fuel first, or at least make sure its very low. Easier on a ramp, if not use jack to take weight of tank and handle the pipes with care as if same as Td5 then they are brittle. Access from floor can be cut through like a disco / rangie if you wish for the future. A bit of time and care would make a tidy job of this. Maybe measurements for others to do the same

Yes a submerged pump which also has an inbuilt filter.
Was looking at a fuel tank about 4.5 years old on Wednesday. Tank had been sent back from Sweden with the comment that rust had formed inside tank and fuel pump was not working. On removing pump no rust was found but what was taken to be organic matter blocking the pump filter. This organic matter could be pushed around the smooth bottom of the tank. Bio diesel/veg oil that had not been properly filtered? Have seen an access panel so pump was accessible from up above ![]() Brendan |

A coule of problems with removing tank is the weight of it if fuel is in it.
Also much easier if it is on a four poster due to space to work in. Brendan |

When we did my rebuild we replaced the old 300tdi tub with a TD5 one. Getting the new plastic tank in the space at the back was an absolute pig of a job - all done on our drive. It just didn't seem to want to go in the gap!
Eventually it was in and Dave said then - whatever, he wasn't going to take the bug*er out ever again unless the body was off! So when we did the engine swop this time, he needed to work on some pump bits in the tank..... you guessed it....I now have a 'ickle square inspection hole in the tub floor! Got no pics unfortunately but if anyone is really really wants them let me know (gotta pull the rubber mat back so not keen to do so unless really needed). |

110 is a LOT easier to remove than a 90 so an access panel came very high on my list of jobs after I'd had to take the tank out of the 90 the first time due to a dodgy fuel level sender. It's paid dividends since as it's made access to the pump and sender unit very quick compared to the best part of a day it took me to remove and replace the tank.
I started by marking out the position of the strengthening bars on the bottom of the tub with masking tape then slid a piece of 3mm steel plate between the top of he tank and the floor to save any 'accidents" when cutting through the floor. After measuring and remeasuring the approximate position of the sender I cut a small 3 inch square hole above what I judged to be the centre of the sender. With that done I could expand the hole out to the final dimensions needed to remove the sender/pump unit. I ended up with the hole slightly off centre to avoid cutting too far into the strengthening bars. I used 4 M6 rivnuts to secure the cover with countersunk M6 alan head bolts countersunk into a 3mm thick aluminium cover. |
