Last time I was in Spain I didn't anticipate driving at night and forgot to put the deflectors on. Virtually every single truck coming the other way on the motorway was flashing me, which got pretty tedious pretty quickly. I ended up stopping at a rest area and using insulation tape to do it.

As for the lights, yes, very "pretty", but I just don't see the point. Put the money towards a trip.

Look at the LGV’s not one bothers with beam deflectors (Not sure if there is an answer BTW re the JW’s ) I drive/drove all over Europe and not once have I’ been stopped for light infringements might of had a few Paris peyage moments re Tacho infringements making the Friday night ferry but nothing 200 B&H didn’t sort (bring back those days )

A question for Gary of Alive Tuning...
Are these new LED light units suitable to put into an SVX front officially EU marked? Meaning carrying the E-mark plus country number in a circle.
So are they fully road legal on a Defender in any EU country plus Switzerland? (Switzerland has same compliance requirements as rest of EU by the way).
If that is a yes, will Alive be offering units which will be specific to LH drive cars?

Tks for clarification. Eric

By the way, I have Alive's NAS bumper with DRL on my SVX for about half a year now, and it works/looks like a gem.

Ericvv - I bought my ICE defender from AutoBritt in Geneve, coming back in a couple of months for my free service.
If you change your lights - you will need to see the SAN to get them approved, you might also want to look up Bob from Freddy Marine in Gland, he's a great Land Rover fan Thumbs Up

Phillips extreme brilliance bulbs? 19 quid. Osram nightbreakers? similar. To each their own I guess. I found on my puma that uprated bulbs made a world of difference, I can't think of a situation where I'd have needed or wanted more light.

Hi bpman, my SVX is from Autobritt too. Great service they give, and if after the 3 years factory warranty you buy the extended warranty for upto another 3 years, that warranty includes the annual big maintenance job too, so the price for that seems quite right. You confuse me at bit, bought a ICE here in Switzerland to take back to UK? Or are you actually living here somewhere, you are not the ICE I see parked everyday here in Collonges-Bellerive no?

Anyway, the SAN, did not realize that if the lights would have the proper E-marking. But can well imagine you are right about that given the Swiss being very precise.

Raises another question, as I wrote I did install the Alive tuning NAS bumper with DRL on my DEF. These DRL do carry the official E-marking. And they are correctly wired so that they come on with the contact, but automatically go off when I turn on the parking or driving/high beam.

I presume I did not have to go to the SAN for these, as after I bought the unit from Alive, I had them installed by Autobritt after they had actually received a notification from LR Switzerland last summer that they now were allowed to install after market DRL on all Land Rovers.

In any case Alive's DRL are of prime quality, same colour and intensity as the frequently seen original equipment on various high end car brands.

So hope all will be ok when I have to go for the first SAN inspection when the car will be 6 (or is it 4?) years old.

Tks your advise, eric

hi Eric, sounds confusing, I lived in 1170 Vaud for a year and bought the ICE, when I moved back I brought it with me.

The Swiss are like the Germans, if you change anything you MUST get the SAN to approve it. I was in Vaud, but Geneve may have it's own "SAN" well worth checking. I installed a tow bar, that had to be checked. Have a word with Philippe at Autobritt he'll know.

First SAN inspection will be 2 years for emissions ?

Is it getting cold there yet ?

Steve, sofar quite mild here, nothing like last year where we had a similar early winter experience as you in UK.

Anyway, I will check this SAN story for the DRLs, but interesting to see that even the city buses here now are getting all equipped with after market DRL's similar to those on the Alive NAS bumper.

Checking with Philippe makes me smile. He is as Swiss as the SAN themselves :D

Of course, I'd love some. Funky as hell, I saw Kens when we went down and they really are sweet.

I've seen people who have LED headlights suffer in snow, the lights don't make enough heat to melt the snow and visibility suffered to the extent of stopping and wiping them clear.

Anybody experienced this? QRZ 2e0vpf
