In general all that soot is coming from the EGR in normal operation and any oil is coming as a mist from the crankcase vent that feeds into the turbo inlet hose.
On a 2.4 the easiest way to rectify all this mess is to have the EGR mapped out, blank the EGR cooler at ingress and fit a genuine ProVent 200 or 100 on the crankcase vent pipe. Then give your inlet manifold , hoses, Intercooler and MAF a good clean and look forward to an engine that stays clean, performs better and lasts a lot longer. |

@Ianh
Thank you very much indeed. I have my EGR blanked and also mapped out. The EGR should remain clean, anyways is there a chance of oil getting there from the turbo or returning from the intake manifold? |

Thanks for the advice on this one guys. Seems like all roads leading to blanking this EGR. Will leave that up to the next owner to decide. Got the hose changed yesterday and took the car out for a run. Back to its old self and the smoke is 99% gone. Only on acceleration from very low gear and rpm would there be a little puff. Will do some hills soon for good measure. And miraculously, I have 3 MAP and MAF sensors now...😆 On to the next thing. Poly bushes and the footwell water leak... 110 SW 2.4 IZUMI BLUE |

Ongoing saga …..
Changed the injectors today The mechanical part took an hour including recleaning the seats The ECU part ….. uffff The supplier gave me 24 digit trim codes which of course didn't work. Took me half a day to get a response from them - omit the 8 zeros towards the end of the code to get down to 16 Then the ECU wouldn’t accept the codes - error code 31 Ran like a bag of spanners ECU wouldn’t allow a pilot learn due to excessive inbalance between cylinders Updated my nano software which helped But the only way to code them in was to do one at a time - switch off the ignition between each one. After this the pilot leant was successful Net result - still have the putt putt noise EGR next After that I will strip off the inlet and exhaust manifolds and the entire air intake path and see what I can find Could be as simple as a leaking gasket 2010 90 LHD soft top 2010 110 XS 2008 110 E LHD 1985 90 soft top |

How much did the injectors set you back? Genuine Denso ones?
That’s a lot of money to not get an improvement. ![]() I’d be getting it on a Dyno so a professional can see what the vehicle is doing while on a run before throwing anymore money at it. 2017 5.0 V8 Supercharged RRS SVR 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS. |

Yes they are denso refurbished units. Local guys charges 55 euro a pop for the rebuild. J always have set now in the shed now ready to go. I struggle to find decent garages where I live. The local dealer charges 125 euro an hour for them to learn how to fix my car, so with many things I use my JLR discount to get the genuine parts and fit them myself. Last set I had changed they charged me 700 euro labour only - as I have discovered the tools are simple and cheap and I can do set in an hour, my nano dose the coding and pilot: This is why I am trying the easier parts that I can do first. I may have to go to another country to find a specialist that really knows the TDCI or failing that a trip to Blighty at some point. 2010 90 LHD soft top 2010 110 XS 2008 110 E LHD 1985 90 soft top |

Denso injectors are notoriously difficult to refurbish. I’ve also seen many common rail injectors that pass bench tests but still fail to perform properly once installed in an engine. If you’ve narrowed the issue down to the injectors, it’s usually better to source replacements from a reputable dealer or tuner. Puma 110" SW
