Apologies for covering old ground- to an extent.
About to order either the Shift R or Slickshift, and favouring the Shift R mainly due to the reported rattle issue with the Slickshift (although the Mk2 Slickshift seems to have addressed this somewhat). Shift R straightforward drop in fit, single piece shaft, but is a little pricier. There don't seem to be any very recent threads on either, and particularly interested to hear from those who have had the Type R fitted for a while. Comments appreciated, thanks. |

Just reporting back in- I've had the shift R fitted for a week or so now. I'd say it was an improvement in general, but not as marked as some have reported. A bit stiffer- especially in reverse which is substantially stiffer. A bit more feel through the stick- which does mean your can feel the graunchiness as well. More positive shifts. Very quick and easy to fit, not too expensive, so overall good. Not necessarily a 'must have', though.

^^ That’s exactly what I thought when I fitted one to my previous 2011 Defender 90.

Who is selling the Shift R? Struggling to find one. Seems the Slickshift is about £200. Dorothy - 2001 Defender Special Vehicles TD5 Hardtop (Ex Scottish & Southern) Side Lockers, Side Hatches - Poorly chassis and bulkhead. (SORNd)

had a Slickshift for over five years, trouble-free, easy to fit. The only problem when fitting, if you use a new turret, is adjusting the bias spring, though Slickshift do an excellent video on how to do that. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

ScarboroughSeadog -
You should find that will improve, at first it seems a bit stiff, but after a few months you’ll find it’ll be just right. Dorothy - TMD was where I got mine from, I believe or at least my understanding is they designed them. When I last looked online, like you I couldn’t see any for sale. If that doesn’t turn up anything, I’d contact TMD. If that doesn’t work out the Slickshift is good too so I hear. ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

I dont understand the need for these, if you understand the principle of a lever, you are just swapping reduced throw distance for increased force, they are not new, I had one on my first car, a beetle in 1987 !!
I dont understand how this is perceived as an improvement, if anything you are making the shift more knotchy and stiffer, We have customers phone us saying the shifts are not great, sometimes a box issue or oil issue but also sometimes as a short throw type product is fitted, I have no axe to grind, I just struggle to understand it ! You raise good points Dave. I fit a short shifter for an entirely crazy reason: so the shifter wouldn't bash into bottles in my drinks holder. It worked, though the shift is much stiffer.
