Puma Shift R
Apologies for covering old ground- to an extent.
About to order either the Shift R or Slickshift, and favouring the Shift R mainly due to the reported rattle issue with the Slickshift (although the Mk2 Slickshift seems to have addressed this somewhat).

Shift R straightforward drop in fit, single piece shaft, but is a little pricier.

There don't seem to be any very recent threads on either, and particularly interested to hear from those who have had the Type R fitted for a while.

Comments appreciated, thanks.

I fitted the shift R into mine a few months ago. The original gear lever felt very loose and you could be stirring it around in circles without it actually engaging with anything, I think this is why it rattled sometimes. It certainly feels a lot better in the hand and does away with all that stirring and a lot of the rattles. It significantly shortens the throw or movement of the stick between gears which feels a bit weird at first but you get used to it. I personally liked the longer throw of the original. The number one reason I bought it was that it might help with the quality of the gear change, especially between 1st to 2nd but for me it didn’t improve anything there.

Overall I’m very happy with it and would recommend.

Just reporting back in- I've had the shift R fitted for a week or so now. I'd say it was an improvement in general, but not as marked as some have reported. A bit stiffer- especially in reverse which is substantially stiffer. A bit more feel through the stick- which does mean your can feel the graunchiness as well. More positive shifts. Very quick and easy to fit, not too expensive, so overall good. Not necessarily a 'must have', though.

^^ That’s exactly what I thought when I fitted one to my previous 2011 Defender 90.
