A little update on this practical classic, after a bit of time and the car returned back to me. it was in limp mode and in a bit tired. So the backend of the last year, me and my mate changed the wheel bearing, i sorted the Maf sensor, Also its very hard to believe this would be the very last ever job we would ever do together. Crying or Very sad We did have plans on doing the engine mounts and sort all the rear end.
I got another mate of mine to do the clutch weeks after the passing of my buddy, he did offer to do the engine mounts for me, while he had the car, He said the gearbox was very low on oil, and that the gearbox seal on the pass drive shaft had given up, Which was all sorted out. He had been pestering the life out of me since i knew him, since the days of when he owned 306s and when i had the vvc metro, to give this a stage one tune. So i finally said yeah go on, one of the lads on the forum has did a hell of a lot of research into HDI tuning, and made his own business out of it now. We used one of his Maps, the car was quick to start with, its made it 10mph faster and gone from 92 BHP to about 120 BHP or something a long those lines. As i have had the Air filter and exhaust in place since the 1920s Laughing So its rounded that off. I have had the car in for the inner tie rods and track rod ends, and rear end brakes and damper bolt sorted. The rear end i was going to do with my mate, who sadly passed, we corrected one problem last year there. i didn't know if we were to going to get my dads 200 TDI back in action again, and with the TD5 starter going west on me, i have had to push it forwards. I am getting the wheels done next, as i am keeping money to one side for this now like. If things like it or not. I have them here to be re painted, and i can get new tyres for them, so i may just get these done during the holiday shut down. Thumbs Up its nice to see somethings going my bloody way this year, instead of things taking the sodding pess out of me. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

finally got the wages to sort the replacement wheels,

These are XSI wheels that were off the petrol models, and earlier 306s. I picked up last year. The solid centre rims i cannot not get balanced at all, so those have gone for scrap. So £260 to get these sorted, and i have ordered off 5 new tyres to go on. So fingers crossed this time next week, the 306 will be sitting on proper 306 wheels after nearly 9 years of sitting on 405 rims, and spacers. The rear bumper i am looking at changing look like it could be a laugh, as the bolts and screws under are gone! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

finally after years of saying i will get the proper wheels back on, well not exactly the original wheels but the proper 306 wheels. Spent a £400 quid on new rubber, including the spare.
Royal rain sports x4 and a Avon for the spare, So no odd profile and budget on the front and no aging rear tyres, last of all no bloody spacers! I forgotten how easy OEM wheels are to fit on this after nearly 10 years!

the car with the 405 alloys on, only one i have with these on, that i can find.

while i was there i fitted these to the front of the car, Been missing for 18 years!

My mate fitted and balanced the tyres, he later came around to collect my old wheels for scrap, and he said, Andy fitting the proper 306 alloys back on, has took 10 years off it!

So one mega mile stone has been achieved here, all sorted for £600 quid.
Need to give it a service, at some point, and look at the interior. I may have a look at the rear bumper, Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

haha! Darren Lobb he is the king of XUD tuning. He wrote the book on it, I think he may have been the very 1st one on the pug306.net to break the 200bhp marker with the XUD. He had a black phase 1 306 which got painted green, and i think he went a different route with it. I know he owns a farm and i do remember him playing with a dyno that him and his mate got hold of, I think his buddy built a defender with a cummings engine. Great lad Darren is. Not sure if his 306 project is still going.

A few of the lads had 106s too, on the side. One strapped a turbo a NAD and it made good power. 106 to me is just a baby 306. The Gti versions i recon could give the GTi version of mine a run around a track. I think the 106s may have survived more than the saxo has. I always say that the X06 was the last of the proper peugeot era, also you could say the same thing about the full french era. As i think the Clio may have been the last of the full blown french hot hatch era.
you know something Hank, why get your hands on another one, as a little classic, i have had the 306 since 2007, paid about 3k for hit, when it was 6 years old. Gone up and down the country with it, and my mam has used it with out any trouble for about 2 years. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Yeah I used to follow Darren on the forums back in the day! He was posting on youtube recently but his channel has gone a little quiet of late https://www.youtube.com/@darrenjlobb/videos

There are videos of the black/green 306 and the cummins Defender.

Saxo's vs 106's... Whistle I did have a look for a 106 fairly recently but they've appreciated in value for sure!.

Agree the final french hot hatches! > 110 XS Double Cab

I know someone who is selling what is essentially a Re-shelled and tweaked 106 GTi if you know anyone who wants one.

I haven't seen it for a couple of years, but from memory it was quite a tidy thing- He took it off the road last year as it had developed a miss, and has been pushed to the back of his workshop and left as other life events have taken priority.
