yeah that was the plan but couldn't find the one I thought I had in the garage, of course as soon as I order a new one & get it fitted I'll probably find it...
Something happened to the sides & rear of the 90 this week, during a day trip from Wales to a place called 'civilisation', the 90 went from this:

A fantastic job by Dave from Landyglass, really impressed with the attention to detail & clean lines of the finish. They weren't clean for long as I took the 90 laning the day after fitting:

I know John, I've just left it off the 90 for now. I suspect it took a knock a few years ago on a lane in Wales, it used to sit higher than the driver one. Earlier this year it dropped lower, but the rust that was holding it up finally gave way when I was standing on it trying to unpack when I got home last week. In a way I'm glad it happened to me and not someone else, you imagine if it had been one of the kids last week!

Anyway, moving on to more interesting developments.... In comparison with the landyglass & new cappings, the rear crossmember & swingaway carrier were starting to look rather tatty:
But after a dismantling session, much wire brushing, scraping & chiselling, I brushed on some paint, and this is how it looked:
The wheel carrier is back on now too, but when I took that pic the brackets were still drying. I've no idea why the pics aren't showing in the previous post, and I've tried getting them back with no luck?! I suspect farcebook have changed some setting or other, which means I can't use the photos within other sites or something stupid like that.
Anyway, I got a job done recently that I should have done ages ago, and fitted x-trouser door catches to the 90. They are a huge improvement over the factory-fitted ones, which were in a bad way. The pictures are still all there when viewing on my laptop, I noticed on Sunday that any videos I take on my phone and tablet caused me no end of hassle putting up anywhere on t'internet. I ended up having to use an apple programme even though all my stuff is on android, something perculiar is going on at the moment!

Well I use apple products anyway, so hopefully I don't need to resort to a PC to post these....

I'm still having issues with posting photos that I've uploaded to Farcebook, when I've got time I will pop a few photos in my Def2 Gallery.
The most recent mod I've made is the fitting of LED Headlights and numberplate light. I sourced the Trucklites headlights from Brendan at 4x4 Overlander, and the numberplate light is a MUD item. This leaves the side repeaters and spotlights as the only external halogen lights, all others now LED. To fit the Trucklites, I had to remove the dim-dip: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The Trucklites have a sidelight feature that I wanted to have, so I used MUD connectors to tap into the sidelights on each side: Click image to enlarge They look slightly different than the standard ones Click image to enlarge I wasn't as worried about changing the looks, but more interested in the difference to the driving beams. The following pics are to compare the beam patterns, I stopped at the same place on a country road (on the way to work at 0500) and took photos with my iPhone. Similar windows are available from a few different suppliers, but having looked at the finish I'd go with the 'LandyGlass' finish every time. I can highly recommend Dave's handiwork, he made it look easy (both the heated front screen at the Peterborough showground, and the panoramic glass at premises in Sutton Coldfield) and has finished it to a very high standard. Drop me a PM if you want to have a look 'in the flesh', so to speak. There's actually a few of us in this area we should probably try to organise a meet up sometime! Dave has recently rebranded LandyGlass as Vehicle Glazing Specialist (to highlight that it's not just Land Rovers he does) but he still carries the range of LandyGlass products- ClaireWright on this forum is Dave's better half. MOT'd today, only failure was the NAS style LED foglight which wasn't working, but luckily I had a spare in the garage as I'd been planning to double fog & reverse up. As well as a service, I've had the front calipers replaced as they were sticking, and have gone for 110 vented front discs too. Mark S

I had a rather harrowing morning yesterday....
Click image to enlarge The 90 definitely needs a good clean now, the mud combined with the salt/grit from the roads mean it looks pretty dirty. Yesterday I trial fitted my awning, going to require a bit of fabrication to get a solid backing to give it the stability it needs, but the placement is good: Click image to enlarge See what I mean about it looking dirty

For short overnight trips, I made this 'bunk' for my 90 out of a sheet of plywood I had lying around.
Click image to enlarge Tested it over the weekend while supporting at a cycle event, and I have a few observations. There isn't a lot of room for other kit- but if it was more than one night I'd be taking a tent anyway. There isn't much room to move around once an airbed on top of it, I managed to get into my sleeping bag but you definitely can't sit up once you're in. No photos of this I'm afraid- I deflated the airbed in the morning before I tried to get up! I also had to make two trips up a hill to set up and take down a talkthrough radio station. The other 90 you see stayed up the hill for 24 hours, as the event started from 0600 and was a closed road event. Shows that 2 Land Rovers are never the same!
My 90 has had the Mud 4x4 Bulkhead removal kit fitted which removes the vertical part only so you still have storage. So what are my sleeping quarters like, well I fold down the front passengers seat and, in my case, the 2 individual seats in the back. Mark's bed probably sits higher than mine due to the height of a standard bulkhead, unlike him I can sit fully upright. No airbed required but the seat 'mattress' is a bit narrow but you get used to it. Only real problem for others is that I am VERY visible when getting in or out of my sleeping bag, doesn't bother me though! Mark has, of course, fitted Landieglass so he can see them not the reverse! Storage wise, I probably have a bit more than Mark as his plywood is wider than my seats, I have all the floor and the other seats. Sorry for the lack of photos, I've never been one for cameras. |
