You might consider putting down some sound deadening material (like dynamat or killmat to mention a few names for reference) before final install. That should quiet down any noises that might result from removing the big foam insert. I doubt the foam insert does much for sound, but my guess is that you will hear some road noise without it that isn't there with it.

I do plan on putting some foam padding under the tray. Got the frame painted and the remaining floor panels cut today. Need to cut the outer walls and partitions and then fasten everything to the frame with rivnuts and screws. It might be next week before I can work on it again.

Skinning the frame with 1/2" Baltic birch plywood fastened to rivnuts in the frame with 10-24 truss head stainless screws. A dull drill bit is slowing the progress.

Got the tray bolted in after a slight struggle. The Redarc charge controller is on the outboard right side. I'll need to figure out where to put the isolator relay and fuses and wire everything up this week.

If you use the back of the car to sleep & you pick up hitchhiker. The floor will not collapse! Visitor - Freelander owner

Although I could sleep in the back of the 110, I have a roof tent on my D90 that I can put on the roof rack but usually I just tow my Eriba Puck travel trailer that I imported from the UK three years ago

I would have liked a Defender, other half really wanted one. Street parking is 100 spaces short for our street according to Council. But our first problem was garage height. The Freelander just scrapes in by mm if I am sitting in it. 1950s structure for cars of that era was smaller.

We would have gone roof tent, but we carry second spare wheel, solar panels, 50L of fuel, sand tracks, sand flag & awning. A bit over limit so try to avoid filling tanks etc where possible.
