TD5 Heater Fan
Help!

So the heater was working ok up until a few days ago, now nothing!

I have tried all the obvious stuff,

1. Checked fuse, think there is only one fuse? It's ok.
2. Checked that fan actually spins by sticking my hand into the fan from the wing! It's fine and spins freely.
3. Replaced the fan switch with a new genuine Land Rover one!
4. I get power at the fan switch, power on both green wires? Is that normal? Not sure how the switch works with a resistor?

Anyway flummoxed! The trip up to Aviemore last night was interesting in -1°!

Any help would be appreciate.

Thanks

Duncan

heater switch first stage swathes ground with resister - stage two or flat out bypasses resister to the motor

check that you good ground the switch

black wire with black spade on the end and male spade lug on the switch lever

Looks like an earth problem from the switch.

Can I ask if there is a difference between the two green wires? Do they need to go a certain way round?

Thanks

So Dorsetsmith, it appears I have more than just this issue now!

Driving home from a weekend in Aviemore last night and I had the heated front screen on, the lights and I was using the windscreen wipers. I noticed that if I had the front heated screen on, and the rear as well that every time I used the wipers the speedometer dropped and the needle pulsed or flicked in time with the wipers Rolling with laughter

Does this mean I have a major earth issue? How many earths does the TD5 have and where are they. I assume if one or all of them are corroded that this could cause not only the issue with the heater blower but also the other electrical gremlins I have discovered?

Cheers

start with your battery neg follow onto the chasse and then on to transfer box over to driver side under nether chasse to body work strap and in engine bay just behind coolant expansion tank earthing header

good place start with

earth header C0289 K109 behind centre fascia (radio )

C0550 k108 engine bay just behind coolant expansion tank earthing header on the bulkhead

have check earthing from battery . run temp wire down from the heater switch to the battery neg and see if this helps with your earthing problem

under nether driver side chasse to bulkhead strap

Thank you so much, really appreciated.

I had a lot of bulkhead work done with windscreen out and other bits off, wings etc etc. Maybe the earths havent been put back correctly.

Regards

Hi Dorsetsmith

So gets even more interesting now as there is a smell of burning, so my son tells me. I can't smell it as I am getting over Covid and have no sense of taste or smell! Where is the earth strap behind the dashboard is it easy to find?

Cheers

OK

I'll get under the car at the weekend.

Could that be the issue?
