" BAG OF NAILS SYNDROME " Any dealers intereste
Firstly hello to you all my green oval loving friends ...

I've had Def's for almost 17 years but I'm gobsmacked at how the dealers treat you ... This was not my first dealer bought motor, but I am stunned at how badly you are treated .

Before I embark on a long and needless rant .. Laughing

Has anybody else on here heard of or been stuck with a noisy rattling engine ( puma 2.4 ) sounds like a load of nails bouncing around through the entire rev range at all speeds. To a point where I'm getting a little fed up of driving it now, just had a new gearbox fitted ( still under main 3 year warranty ) - which is as bad as the first ! And I'm told the usual rot - " They all sound like that " and "They all drive that way " From someone who should still be at school ..... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

With my job i have driven thousands - yes thousands of Defenders over the years, and they DONT all sound like that !!!! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Any advice or knowledge would be fantastic as i can see a huge argument brewing with the dealers ....
Oh and its not the old Piston Cooling Jet rattle either ..... Got told that by a schoolboy in a shirt too ....

Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Grrrrrrr spent 20 years fixing them ... the dealers just wont listen !!!!

Get them to redo the Injector Grades using the 16 digit Hex codes printed on each injector fitted to your defender and not from build records as they may have been changed and the injector grade write wasn't carried out properly, and also to redo Pilot correction learn properly. This should cure the Clattery bag of spanners, if not then you can move on to the fuel pump regulator, fuel pressure rail sensor etc. etc. Thumbs Up

Thanks ... would you believe .. customer services told me to deal with the dealer !!!! so that was a waste of a call ....

on one visit, it had a new download done and an injector pilot learn and was told it was cured ... have since had no replies to emails or calls .. and upon entering the dealer was told the service mamager wasnt available ... so i waited .... to no avail ..

i honestly believe its an injector fault .. but will they listen .. NO !!! Rolling Eyes spent 20 years fixing them ... the dealers just wont listen !!!!

Changing dealers should always be a consideration, some just can't/won't bother to sort problems out.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Find a good independent who you can trust and work with them to get things sorted out. Problem with the dealerships is that you can only shout at the person on the service desk as that's as far as you can normally get.

Shrekman - The techs were probably trying to get their efficiency bonus that day and left out anything deemed unimportant, like a bellhousing bolt or two... Rolling Eyes

Exactly for these reasons I refuse to buy a new one, until LR UK do something about their approach to franchising the brand I will always go independent.

There are good indy's out there that capitalise on the shocking reputation of the franchises (accept there are exceptions to the rule) find one and you won't go back.

Imagine having anything from the LR range and not living in fear of the next failure....it is going to fail, it's just about the fight / cost to get it fixed Whistle

I suppose you've checked turbo heatsheilds / sheilds underneath aren't rattling? If its had its gearbox out, something may be loose. Rolling Eyes
