That’s just how front runner installed it and it’s never bothered me enough to warrant drilling more holes in the table.

I notice there are a few variants of these tailgate drop tables for Jeeps on Amazon.

This one caught my eye - no idea whether it fits as well as the one above - seems to be about 48mm longer (before the extender is pulled out) so not sure whether it would still fit on the existing Defender bolt holes as shown above (I think that one 600 wide))

Have this table fitted to mine.
Nice. I expect the offset is because the existing bolts in the door line up exactly with the back frame sides - I'd be tempted to do something similar to the OP's solution with angle brackets to get the centring.

Thanks for the photos though! Thumbs Up Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Thanks to both OP and PaulMark for the info, these fold down tables look like a great addition, and not expensive. I've just ordered one too.

Cheers

Much as I like the extendable one for the extra space, I notice that it blocks access to the bin in the tailgate door unlike the (cheaper) one described by the OP Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

OP ~ top effort. That looks very nice and maintaining access to original bins/cubby a definite plus.

Is the cable in the tethers just new or actually a little inflexible?

Did it, too.

For the door panel replacement bolts 6x30mm is enough. 35mm not necessary.

My fold down table came a wee bit narrow, I had to add 5mm spacers. No big deal. Did add them at the inward side so they are not obviously visible.

Thanks to G4R1 for this great mod idea.

It is bolted using the existing holes/nuts, you don’t have to remove the panel. Just remove 4 bolts, 2 on each side of the panel and replace them with longer bolts (about 35mm long) to fix the angle brackets.

Looks really good - and using existing placements was an absolute gem. When the 110 arrives, I will certainly be investing in this well thought out solution. Bow down

Right seen enough, I have ordered the requisite bits, I will probably 3d print the spacers when fitting on mine. Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Thanks G4R1 for the inspiration!
I like that I didn't have to alter the door at all and used the same trim mounting locations.
I also made a little shelf for stuff to fit underneath, I've got 2 medium sized dogs that have to go back there.
Thanks for the post!
