now got quite a bit of work to be getting on with, hopefully things should move a bit faster now.

Matt - I'd be pleased with 12mpg, 180/200 miles a tank I wouldnt bother with another tank, thanks for the info.

What air kit did you go with in the end? Doesn’t look like the VB kit I thought you were going with?

Don't get me wrong, it still doesn't miss a fuel station Rolling with laughter

Just has a look through your pictures on flickr, I would paint that new steering box in your choice of chassis paint, mine looked like that 12 months ago and after only 3k mile you would think it had done 10 years service! Also I would fit the fuel tank cradle on the other side of the chassis mount, if at sometime down the line you need to access the fuel pump it will be a nightmare job to get the fuel tank out. 1989 90 4.3 V8

Looks good which air kit did you go for? After years of poo booing the idea I finally started fitting fuel pump/sender hatches in the rear floor. My god what a improvement it can be done factory spec with a captive ring under the floor and a almost flush fitting cover on top. This really should of been factory fit it makes a fuel pump swap a ten minute exercise with no fuel draining etc

Is 12mpg really all you can expect? I know it will never be economic, but I was hoping to see something closer to 20. Wishful thinking?

Thanks guys.

Matt, thanks - I looked at fitting the fuel tank support the other way round as it makes total sense and I had the same thought as you, but unless I'm missing something (nothing new there) I'd need to grind off the captive nuts and nut and bolt it. I'll revisit this.

I do like a bit of EM121, I'll give the steering box a go over with it the next time I mix some up, did wonder as the finished looks dodgy.

question - The upper panhard rod to chassis mounting bracket has a massive hole in where the tie bar connects to it, I don’t remember any bush or anything, I've looked at a few diagrams but there doesn’t seem to be any bush, am I missing something???? or is that just the way it is as it seems very odd.....

The air suspension was this kit

http://onairsuspension.uk/passenger-vehicl...exc_shocks

I was going with the VB kit but with the exception of IRB no one would supply and commission the kit despite me talking with every UK agent, was a good move in the end, the onair stuff is a LOT cheaper and the qulity seems really good, Juice motors have a good video on you tube of one being fitted.

Keep the advice coming it's a really big help.

Andy,

I am moving on at some rate due to the inspiration from your thread, keep the updates coming, may need some advice very shortly... Smile

the wheels are one of the issues with the brakes, the bigger brakes require 20's, and I've only been able to find two neither really float my boat. I think with the AP's I can run 18's with lots more choice.

I'm in touch with a chap waiting for his Ceika kit to arrive and he has the Khan 20 rims, so I'm waiting to see how he gets on. I'm also a little concerned about the brakes with 8 and 6 pots and the amount of fluid being moved under braking and whether the LR system could cope.

These are the 6 pot fronts with the smaller 356 rotors, if I have 20's I could install the 405 rotors

Philip, The accessory kit is part of the package from Turnkey, they are using the TK Hi Mount ac set. There is quite a bit of STUFF they do to the standard engine to make it fit and work
With the red engine cover, that looks like the supercharged LSA engine in there,...430KW or around 570/580hp,...very nice.

mrfirepro, first off nice build!

Popping my 130 on bags myself and wondering what sized fittings and line your kit supplied? Couldn't find it on their site.

I ask as I'm torn on which Airlift 3P controller to purchase, the 1/4" or 3/8" variant.

Would be nice to know as I'd have something to compare visually with Juice's videos regarding inflation speed as the 3/8" lines will allow a flow rate of 225% compared to that of the 1/4" (71.3 mm^2 vs. 31.7 mm^2, respectively).

Cheers Stuart

My naturally aspirated v8 estate doesn't get more than 22 mpg combined - and that's 80% having it in 'comfort' setting pottering around. My V12 does better on a run Shocked then again its only rear wheel drive.

I can really imagine a v8 defender being sub 15mpg.

The big hole is all you have on the Panhard rod bracket the stay is just to help sideways motion, make sure to use the correct large thick washer and UNF locknut

I've been thinking about the fuel tank craddle and refitting it so that it can be removed downwards (thanks to Matts comments Thumbs Up ) if I do this is it really possible to remove the tank from below given the fuel lines and electrical connections?

Yes you can. This is what I have done. You can drop the tank enough to comfortably release the fuel lines from the pump.

There is a bit of detail about what I did about half way down this page: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic67542-255.html
