Done a grand total of nitto on the 90 in the last few weeks with a bathroom taking up all my spare time instead. Got out with the dogs in the rain which was nice enough. Hopefully bathroom finished tomorrow!

I was just reading your thread - very good read.

slightly off track but what is that dog cage as I think it would suit my 110 with one seat removed from the rear.

BTW - very similar looking WCS to our Thumbs Up

I made the crate years back. It’s just 2” softwood and ply. It was actually made to fit a Navara with the back seats folded up bit work well in the 90. The lad is a cracker, real hardworking dog when the gun is out and soft as you like at home!

Did the OEM sub install this afternoon. As with all things defender, it wasn’t straight forward, I even had to break out the angle grinder!!

Martin did a superb job of sorting out the little link loom for me behind the head unit, saving a fair few quid over the LR version. He even threw in a futurenet pencil which made all the difference!

Sound quality has improved immeasurably! I started off with that awesome slide base intro to One of Those Nights by the Eagles before moving on to the awesome base filled Deep Purple track; You Can’t do it Right. If you don’t know either of these songs go and google it and imagine how good they sound when you can actually hear the base.

Overall, an awesome upgrade!

Decided to tackle the fuel tank leak this weekend. The thought was that the breather had perished. Dropping the tank was a right pain, until I spotted this in the manual:

Standard land rover! Having got some advice from Pacha on here, I phoned YRM who very kindly let me pick up a tank cradle yesterday afternoon, so after a drive up to Bishop Auckland, I set about the old one with the angle grinder.

The new one fits up from underneath which is a very neat improvement, and means you can take the tank in and out vertically. Anyhow, got the tank out and found the breather to be OK, but the vent pipe was leaking. It’s supposed to be a 2 way valve, so will leak every time the tank was brimmed, which is whenever I fill it up. The is such a ridiculous design I can’t quite get my head around how it wasn’t a recall.

That was yesterday, the plan for today is the re route the vent pipe into the engine bay to make it higher than the tank and also prevent water ingress when wading. More later...

Tank in. Was a bit of a chew but not as bad as getting it out. I’ve relocated the vent to the outboard if the wheel arch. This is to make it easier the replace when it fails, but I’ll also relocate it higher up tomorrow when I can buy some glue hose. Started up as well, which was good!!

Finished off today. Ended up routing the Vent behind the light panel in the wheel arch as I could only get hold of 1m of hose. Got hold of some 20mm rubber/foam and stuffed it between the tank and the floor to keep things tight. Also had to make some shims to space the ARB mounts off the tank guard. Went with 4mm flat bar so will have a check to make sure they aren’t fouling.

All in all, not the worst job in the world! If I was doing it again I’d drain the tank completely, but as it was I left about 10l in there as I ran out of containers. The extra bit of weight made an awkward job harder than it needed to be.
