Rattling clutch. What next?

Have the clutch rattle in neutral. It goes away when the clutch pedal is depressed. The clutch doesn’t slip and it drives just fine. Is there any reason to do anything now or do I just wait for the clutch to wear out?

It’s a 2013 2.2 with 70k on the clock. Instagram @richmond_custom

Mines been rattling like that for the last few years and I haven’t had a problem yet.

My wife's Defender has the clutch rattle, even after a new cultch was fitted. Doesn't slip and pulls fine.

word of caution, if its a standard LR clutch it is the springs that rattle because they are loose in the clutch driven/friction plate, they can come right out, jam the clutch and knacker the flywheel. Some uprated clutches also rattle the transmission but the noise is subtly different

a search on here will give some good info DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

At 52K I had a clutch that didn't rattle or slip yet it was done as It was a job whilst I was in there doing the adaptor shaft.

Either way when it came out (AP branded too) the springs were loose and showed evidence of them chattering about, So it was a good plan to get it changed. The OE spec clutch really is a metal version of cheese creation.

RE the rattle. The new LOF roadspec as a by product does now give me on occasion a bit of gearbox chatter, seems to be causing it at idle when out of gear. Dipping the clutch get's rid of it again like clutch rattle but if you give the throttle a blip in neutral without touching the clutch then this stops it too. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

As above , changed my clutch to a road spec LOF, along with a new takeoff gearbox and now have terrible chatter when in neutral.

A blip on the throttle tends to settle it but not always , dipping the clutch stops it all together .

Pulls beautifully though . https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/

I’m in the market for a new clutch, and will upgrade to a better AM brand. So it’s interesting that all the ‘new rattle’ stories come from LOF which is one of the clear options, and not from ClutchFix. I don’t have the problem of sitting in neutral very often, our nearest traffic lights are 25kms away and just the one set Rolling with laughter , but I know it would bug me.....

Anyone had the same with the ClutchFix? Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Any updated clutch will give more transmission gear chatter when idling in neutral, it’s a simple consequence of stronger springs in the clutch plate and a rattle 4-cylinder engine.

It’s usually most noticeable immediately after change when the springs are stiffest and then quietens slightly after a few thousand miles. It’s a non-issue really.

I definitely didn’t notice it with my last clutch change , mind you that only lasted 20k before the springs started rattling .
I’ve only heard good things about the LOF clutches so I’ll hold on in there.
The guys who fitted it are a recommended installer from LOF and said that a lot of them but not all clatter after installation. https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/
