Td5 OBD port pins 6 & 14
For a project I am working at, I need Canbus signals High and Low, usually pins 6 and 14 of a standard OBDII port.

In my 2006 Td5 Defender I understand that the best I can get is pin 7, ISO 9141 K-Line and ground.

Is there any way to convert real time engine data from pin 7 to a decent dual 6/14 pins, ISO 15765 Canbus protocol?
Any solution, external (commercial) box will do.

thank you,
happy rovering

Nick

I don't think that widget exists... I know Td5 ECUs don't even speak standard OBDII, and need a handshake with a seed and key to initiate communication.

Are you making a Nanocom clone to read engine data?

Thank you both.
Actually I am not trying to make a nanocom clone, but I need to install a device that needs to read real time RPM and the only data it would read is exclusively from pins 6 & 14 standard canbus hi & lo.

I am looking ad Futuranet boxes www.fnltd.co.uk in hope that they have a solution

any further suggestion welcome..!

cheers
Nicola

Real time RPM is on RPM output to tachometer, but not in data form.
And what does it means real time? How many times per second? How big delay compared to real engine RPM? "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

Oh, didn't know that. I am already in contact with Martin, it seems there is a solution, indeed.

thanks

hey, if you find an easy way of talking to the ECU, then please let me know. I would like to build a dash unit that displays RPM, Oil temp etc.

Hi John, I have received a dedicated box from Futuranet. Price in the range of the Nanocom but with reconstruction of Canbus Hi & Lo signals. You may still want to check this opportunity and see if this fits your needs.
For DIY projects I remember OBDuino but my guess is that it is not active since a long time and most of all it does not cover the strange and proprietary Td5 protocol that LR has adopted for a short while.

Hope it helps, in the meantime I haven't still installed the Futuranet box (unavailability of my trusted mechanic) but I will post results shortly once done

cheers
Nicola

thanks, would be great to understand your progress.
Could you provide any details on the Futuranet box you have purchased? Sounds interesting

I've been using an Android app which I've found to be great. All the info is on Facebook posts, a link to which is here : https://m.facebook.com/groups/388834995151...483038093/

Careful which cable you buy, the first I got wasn't actually equipped with an FTDI chip so didn't work. I'm now using this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153466278179

Then you just need a usb OTG cable which can be had for less than £10.

You should be up and running for less than £30, as long as you have an android device already 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power
