So the garage stated that when they pressurise they fuel system the engine starts and runs fine. When the ignition is switched off she fails to restart!

Sounds like air is getting into the fuel system.

Time for a new fuel filter.

She runs fine once started with a bit of quick start spray. She also cranks ok and will continue to turn over until the battery dies. She just won’t start. I would imagine fuel pressure must also be fine for her to run after a bit of quick start spray.

Don’t know, but my gut feeling is that she is immobilised! I think it’s electrical possibly ECU/Alarm!

Cant see how it is the immobiliser as it starts with Quick Start....... hope you get it sorted soon, ?I would be going mad having just bought the vehicle , have you contacted the person who sold it to you?

Good luck

Yep it’s being done under warranty! Moved on to a new garage now. They spent five hours on it yesterday but to no avail. They swapped out all the possible sensors but nothing. They now suspect it may be a stretched timing chain leading to a timing issue. The ECU is being swapped out on Friday. Can’t believe it’s that difficult! The fault is present all the to,e and it’s not even subtle! I heard these timing chains can cause starting problems. Has anyone any info on this? Cheers

I'd avoid use of easy start or quick start at all cost. If they're still using it as part of diagnosis make sure they stop - absolutely horrendous stuff when used on a modern engine.

Immobilisers on puma's on Defender will stop the engine even if it's already running. You might get it to cough and sound like it's going to catch occasionally when you crank but certainly wouldn't get it to run normally at any point.

Things that can stop a Puma running...

Lack of clean crank signal
Lack of clean cam signal
Cam/crank sychronisation within ECU
Adequate fuel pressure (air lock should show up as inadequate rail pressure)
Correct injector voltages/traces

Everything else is tertiary. All the above should be easily readable/measurable using the right tools. Looking at this from a development engineering point of view, cam/crank sync and fuel pressure are the two main go to's and a LR dealer should be able to view them using dealership tools. If they asses which of the above isn't present, they should be able to be more methodical in their approach trying to find an "intelligence" based ECU problem or a physical failure rather than the dartboard diagnostics "change all the sensors".

All the above is irrelevant if it's the original OEM warranty, sit back, enjoy your courtesy car and let them fix their own problem Very Happy
