I'm looking forward to having to use public transport to get to work.
The job starts as I get on the bus and ends when I get home. So let's see. A tap washer change, Sir? Certainly, that's £250 please.... (And no, that's not how much I currently charge to get to the job in my van, in spite of my trade's reputation!) |

How are steam traction engines classified for emissions? Maybe I could buy one of those use it for the commute once diesel is banned. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I’m totally in agreement with commercial use. Until battery/energy storage is much better there is no other viable option.

At plumbers rates you could easily afford a Porsche EV! Seriously though, I'd have thought plumbers vans would be one of the few commercial vehicles actually suited to EV's. Especially with ever tighter restrictions on city centres. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

I live in the countryside where our village gets one Bus a week! How are people in the countryside expected to manage on Public Transport. Not only that, but I had a job recently where I had to get a lot of public transport- and while the transport it’s self wasn’t an issue (when it turned up), I found having to sit near all these members of the public absolutely awful. I don’t really like people (strangers) that much and certain don’t want to have to travel with them. A lot of them were awful! They were often either too loud, too obnoxious, too drunk, too smelly or just too god damn weird for my liking. There. My rant over

It's all this what makes me think about selling up while i can...
For us Land Rover owners it's looking like this option, or face increasing taxation/restrictions not to mention public demonisation or a horrendously expensive electric conversion, of which I could not afford, certainly looking at some of the figures i have seen banded about
On the subject of getting more traffic off the road, as mentioned in previous post, do so many people really need to drive to offices every day just to sit at a desk? Working from home would be a viable option for many office based workers and the only way I can see of substantially reducing daily traffic volumes on the roads. But this would take a huge change in working culture. |

Not sure if I’d get much work done if I worked from home! I think playing with the dog, the TV, the cars and the contents of my fridge would be an enormous distraction! I’m not very self disciplined at the best of times

Hydrogen must be the future.
Used to power electric motors via a fuel cell or as a ‘conventional’ internal combustion engine fuel, it can use existing infrastructure of filling stations, zero charging time, zero emissions (in use). There is still a long way to go as currently nearly all hydrogen production is from oil/gas resulting in heavy CO2 emissions but new developments in more efficient electrolysis and bioprocessing/biogas production does offer some hope. 2012 110 XS SW Orkney Grey 2003 D2 Td5 Black [SOLD] |

I cannot see it happening, too expensive for a start, and it would kill the car industrial. Not to mention the power grid upgrades, that will cost a bomb too.
I recon nothing will change, some countries in the world don't have that good of a power system to handle electric cars. I think some manufactures are still making new diesel cars anyway, though i am not sure if the new Juke is availble in diesel.
