2.2 Spin-on oil filter...
Well, having covered just under 2,000 miles in my new 2.2 I decided an early life/running in service was in order. Of to my local main agent only to have a call later to say its "sort of" done... We had to re-use the old filter as it is a spin-on unit and no one (including LR...) have any filters. Apparently they used to be element filters then went over to spin- on and are now back to element types (my vehicle is one month old) and they think there are 1,000 or so running around with spin-ons.

May be worth checking if you have a recent 2.2, the main agent thinks they may have to change the whole filter housing...

Are you sure there isn't one from a different vehicle that fits?

(Would be very surprised if there wasn't)

Maybe, but it is now a warranty question as apparently it is not just a question of one which fits but one that meets the required specification...

Indeed, but my money would be on there being a suitable alternative out there (there aren't a huge number of oil filter makers). Most likely a Ford type given the engine's origins?

I take it the dealer is proposing swapping the housing as a warranty job?

Why did they start the oil change if the parts were not all there in stock?

I assume they decided not to charge you- yes?

Cheers

I service 3-4 Transit 2.2/2.4 TDCI's every week .. all 2011/2012/2013 ... never seen one with a spin on filter cannister - they all have the same bowl and paper element as previous models Question Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Yep, they are the current [and previous] filter element.

But rick81 says his vehicle is not fitted with this type, but a spin on cannister type ............ Neutral Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Do you mean by spin on filter the filter that could perhaps go on the top of the engine I know some 3.2 engines I had had a spiny filter like the old td5 in the rocker cover cup holder 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs

Hi everyone, to be clear mine is fitted with a spin on filter like the old Tdi and V8 petrol engines were, not the element type that everyone thinks are current....

The dealer thought ( Embarassed ) that they had the right filter in stock, what was not very good was that they then put the old and damaged filter back on. The lady at reception told me that it was fine "they have a seal you know" and "I will chase it up next week" and yes they did still charge me full whack. When I got home and saw how badly damaged the filter was I emailed a very detailed complaint and stated that I intended to call land rover assist stating that my filter was damaged and leaking and I felt the vehicle not drivable..... Service manager on the phone explaining/apologising, had it collected this morning and a double cab demonstrator delivered for me to use (I was offered a range rover but said if I had wanted one then that is what I would have bought...).
