Not sure I saw this mentioned on the main thread? "Is the upcoming 130 a good enough alternative? There might be bad news for pickup truck fans because Land Rover reportedly is dropping plans to build a four-door pickup (like the old one above) using the upcoming Defender 130 as a starting point. An unnamed, high-level insider from Jaguar Land Rover said the automaker canceled the variant from the future product plan, while speaking with Motoring from Australia. "Why would you buy a dual-cab ute when you see what you can put in the back of one of these – this is already a ute with a roof," the source said as an explanation for the decision." Not sure if it's as a result of Project Charge, and so could appear back on the drawing board at a later date; or it's a more fundamental decision that it does not fit the branding strategy/portfolio.

Not madness if it is going to be so expensive that people won’t buy it and it would be very niche (so niche that no other maker has so far launched a luxury crew cab pickup). LR no longer sees the Defender as a working type vehicle it has become a luxury SUV and nobody is going to buy a £70000 crew cab to sling mountain bikes into the back or tow a jet ski to the waterfront, they will buy a £30,000 super reliable Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi or Ford crew cab or an old Disco4/ RRS Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

How do you build a practical pick up on a unibody? At best it will have to have an integrated bed I would think, not giving the option to swap the bed for a tray or camper would limit its success in many markets Even that might not be possible given that a way would need to be found to restore the lists strength from the rear roof. I think it might struggle in the US too as there is a big import tax on foreign made pickups. Toyota had to build a plant in the US to avoid it. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

The (outgoing) Mercedes X-Class is a good example of a luxury crewcab pickup that nobody wants. After only 16.000 sales last year (worldwide) they will discontinue it.

I think part of Mercs problem was they were charging premium money for what was essentially a blinged up Nissan Navarra 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Still available at the moment at prices not too dissimilar to those being asked by Land Rover, marginally cheaper if anything. It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten |
