As you say its a gimmick i would ignore it also ..but it must be a known problem with snorkel pre filters fitted as i doubt nugget would host a video clearly stating the issue...trust you to go for the biggest bore available Wink

The filters are a standard size. A Mahle equivalent is on the Opie Oils website for £15 at present. It's the filter from a Ford Maverick.

Part numbers I noted for the NuggetStuff filter when I was looking for sensibly-priced alternatives:

  • 16546-04N00
  • Wesfil WA830 or A1203
  • Mahle LX830

Googling any of these numbers will find further alternatives, it is a widely used filter.

Blackwolf “its a widely used filter” , your not kidding Smile, these are the ones quoted by Parts in motion, a parts supplier I tend to use for true OEM EGRs etc.
Interesting to note is the height of the filter for different manufacturers ranges from 175-178mm and the hole in the bottom, that if I recall correctly, sits on the conical rubber mount in the airbox, ranges from circa 8-10mm, I expect both measurements combine to insure a tight fit

I was wondering what's the alternatives to a standard airbox for a puma ?nugget .diy bodge and what else ? Am i being a little simplistic? all you need is a as wide a bore tube from wing inlet preferably sealed ( air sensor)to some sort of air reservoir with a filter in it that fits in the space allocated by original airbox..then a pipe to the turbo/engine....I know its probably more complicated for a aftermarket company to introduce a product to the market but the landrover community is innovation and i think nugget needs a little competition.
I might have a we search for inspiration starting at...

I started at topic looking at the options I was aware of. In the end I went with a Nak wintop air intake and a nugget stuff Leo deluxe airbox

That would have cost you around 700-800 notes? I personally think its overpriced for what you get ..but that's the joys of defender ownership Big Cry what actually are the options?

Watching this with interest. I’ve also been on the lookout for a sensibly priced well made option to have a bigger bore hose into the side vent and keep the modified standard air box.
I know some clever people have made something that works but I’m not 100% sure I ever would.

Success

It's a pain of a job to do and I don't have much skin left on my knuckles.

I'm not convinced this little device does much for water separation. I was out in thick fog/drizzle yesterday and when I took the lid off the air box it was damp inside with some small puddles in the webs.

Ultimately I think I'll fit the Nugget Stuff wing to air box kit, however, there's a few things on the list in front of it.

I'll report back on any difference or not.

Just bit the bullet and ordered the full Nugget Stuff Airbox kit from Wayne, which once installed I'll match to my Mantec RAI.

Just did this and took me less than 30 minutes. Helps a lot when you have a reciprocating saw. The little fan came out in pieces, but it came out. I can't tell a difference at this point but I'm trusting that it did make a difference since everyone else says it does Laughing

Me too, it should arrive today/tomorrow, and then will get my indie to fit it.

Will report back afterwards --

First long drive, to Norfolk and back, over the weekend since removing the little fan thingy. No scientific measurement but I think the pick up from low RPM is much better and overall the throttle response feels smoother.

Well worth the time and skinned knuckles.
